It's closer to Hades than Diablo, but in all honesty it's really not as close to Hades as most folks are making it out to be. It feels like it shares much more with hero-based entities like Overwatch or LoL, just... co-op with an isometric camera angle.
It's an entire campaign of an ARPG compressed into one sitting to fit the roguelite genre, or you could say it's just pure PVE moba match.
It's extremely promising. The combat is extremely polished and satisfying.
In ARPGs you at least have the promise of a plethora of loot and shiny trinkets and therewith a form of strategy, even if the gameplay is usually extremely bland. In Ravenswatch you play exactly like you would any ARPG: you run around shooting at mush of enemies that form no distinguishable threat, while the loot is replaced with slow burn meta progression. It's like saying "we want to confine the gameplay as to achieve better pacing" (which is a good philosophy in my opinion) but the gameplay itself is just... nothing. So you're left with one of the most unsatisfying combinations I've ever encountered.
If you like Hades then this is a really trashy version of it. If you like ARPGs then you better hate loot because there is practically none.
Actually, if you look at the vast majority of the reviews, the major complaint is the lack of content this early on. Which, you know, it IS lean for EA but there's more coming. They tend to agree that the gameplay itself is solid though.
Definitely well worth keeping an eye on if the game interest you, at least! Can always snag it when it's got an update or two under its belt.
There's not much of the Diablo grind, but if you are a fan of Diablo or Hades i'd say you should find the game to feel familiar and give it a shot. I think it's on sale right now, too.
...and the fact this game is literally nothing like a moba at all. Don't forget that minor difference.
Mobas are drafting games and there's none of that here.
