I just cannot do it with helga post nerf...

Best pointers (what worked for me): move speed, some form of defence (shields, helm etc), as mmuch life as possible. This and also enough DPS to be able to clear stuff.

Exact builds are kinda hard in this game as everything is random.

I did it post nerf, use Åse as your main damage souce and focus on damage, projectiles, area and a couple of levels into penetration aswell for early game. (First two upgrade crystals into this)
Get 3/3 in your ultimate, for my secondary damage skill I went with tarot cards and got the first upgrade with the crystal to unlock the heal and aoe insta kill.
You don't need defense if you wont get hit. Im assuming you are getting hit by either the axes or the cannonballs. The axes have a certain pattern, look closely and dont panic and they are easy to dodge. With the cannonballs movement speed helps other then obviously avoiding.

In general regardless of character you can reach VERY high damage if you are willing to re-roll your skills to get optimal stats and thus melting bosses.

Talkor makes quick work of this boss fast. Once you beat the first boss, your chances are almost 100% to get to the last boss. He snowballs really fast once you get the golden statue ascension.

My only gripe with this boss is that the blinding circles are WAY too big/blinding. The axe dude always tosses his axe when theyre up and you cant see them to avoid them.

Tried that and it just doesnt work for me with the "shooting over your shoulder" mechanic. Neither of helgas skills (except deck of cards) work for me as they dont allow me to clear an area around me. I am just not able to pay enough attention to my immediate surroundings to be able to dodge stuff with all the visual noise going on. And I've played a ton of different shmups. Some of them were like this and gave me a hard time.

Also it has been impossible to roll good defence items lately. I managet o get 1-3 health pickups per game. Then for shield/helm, that is once every 5 games. Everything else you are saying is correct, this should be doable. I can dodge if I can see what is going on, but here I cannot :D Axes are the most horrible in that regard, its the artstyle or something. So far what worked for me was to stay back but helga does no damae in that scenario. Btw, how many rerolls do you usually do? 5+ rerolls per skill level feels insane...

You want to get both evolutions for the axes and åse. The second evolution of both åse and axe will allow you to clear the entire screen.
The axes in general without the second evolution takes a little bit of time to get used to. But they are in my opinion the strongest weapon for that character.
For rerolls it depends really, the early levels of them I usually dont mind that much and will only reroll once or twice usually trying to get one of the stats every time.
This is the talent build I would recommend: https://i.imgur.com/oVMWhoi.png
If you have more points available go all the way down in the combat tree and pick up projectiles and 4/4 in the last talent.

Good luck!

I can't beat the third stage's last boss on expert, either. Frankly, I think he's so fast and has so much total HP (three bars combined) that it's deranged.

But as has been pointed out in other threads, there are plenty of stages still to be released. Hopefully once you get leaves from those other stages, you can power up enough on the skill tree that the Red/Blue/Yellow Dwarf Cannon-Axe Guy becomes possible for us filthy casuals. I've had several runs where I COULD'VE beaten him if I had some extra damage output/damage vs. bosses.

Is it the axes from the boss that hits you?

I think he was talking about axeldor's axes

It is I'm jsut dumb... and back on the topic when the boss in expert reaches phase 2 the axe can be really tricky to dodge, they are quick and the angle is real big.

Honestly when I found out you can double ascend a spell to get both upgrades, the game became so much easier. It's a bit of put all your eggs in one basket but you'll have one super spell. I don't know if you already know that.

At the current state of the game you dont need additional ones.

Just get as much gold as possible and get as many weapons as you can. You should be able to get 198 gold with the mirror gold doubler artifact. The discount ticket also helps. Best weapons I find are the two bows and cannon. Throwing axe and slingshot also good. Save your diamonds to ascend those.
