There's different ways to do damage. Defense piercing and shredding are good places to start boosting if the fights are dragging.
Defense Pierce and Defense Shredding are essential to powerful builds. When you start running corruption challenges, or just running with higher corruption in general, you NEED Pierce and Shredding.
For most things just getting an X to final power card will do the job just fine.
I personally like Blood transmutation since you can stack health and get crazy damage numbers really true if you get the commoner's guide book.
Trying different approaches, Lunar Inferno was one of my favorite traits for a long time. Defense as damage. Woot woot. So many dynamic ways to play the game 'wrong' and still win. Not to mention faith builds.
