Throwing Knife is a complete let down of a weapon?

I don't know what it was that happened, but it was a weapon that could basically clear out half the screen in whatever direction I dashed in and I basically could dash forever, so it's pretty good to me.

It's extremely build specific. If you have all the dash upgrades and the dash boots artifact, the amount of DPS it does is actually pretty high. However it's definitely not something you want in the early game

I'm running the most recent build and the throwing knife isn't proccing for me. I have a bow and wisp which are, but the throwing knife never fires.

You have to dash to make the Throwing Knife activate.

The best way to use this weapon is 1) have some Penetration, 2) have some Increase Projectile Size, 3) get right up into the face of an elite/champion/boss, aim in the opposite direction of your movement and Dash through the target. It's like firing a shotgun into it's face, and with acceptable crit chance and damage, it can ruin the health bar.

Throwing kind of gives you infinite dashes. If you kill anyone with throwing knife it gives you +1 dash. And that seems very easy to do. As long as you wait for the attack speed between dashes, otherwise it won't throw the knives.

With the brand new today talent that says: When you dash fire all your weapons - I think people will be making very strong dash builds. Firing upgraded thorns when you dash seems cool too.

If you run it with dash and crit you are literally untouchable I did a b tier run without getting hit one using throwing knife and just oneshotting all bosses (down to the DMG gates) it's a very slept on weapon

Throwing knife makes balista which is one of the best weapons in the game but alone, yes it is terrible.

Like DH said, Ballista, is top tier which is the evo between throwing knife and crossbow. Also, the dash bonus is super useful when you get used to it. It makes for a difficult first weapon, but if you want ballista, keep throwing knife as an option.

Well Ballista didn't exist when the topic was created, but yes everything's still true. It's always been pretty dang good for mid-late game screen clearing, but it's also something that I usually banish unless I'm intending to just mash dash all day or am going for ballista. Both of those are pretty rare for me lately.
