How is solo play in DDO?
I'm wondering how well you can solo in DDO nowadays. Is it possible to solo to 20 with any class? One thing I didn't enjoy in the past was the way in which experienced players would fly through dungeons and I'd find myself chasing along after them which I didn't care for too much. I'd like being able to just take my time soloing them sometimes if that is possible. I remember liking the outdoor areas and I think those you could do alone if you wanted to, the slayer ones?

well yes you can do any slayer alone. There are also plenty of builds and ways to become proficent alone and be able to solo any quest, I am in fact friends with a few people who have build themselves to the point of soloing entire raids. namely Shroud, Tempest Spine, and Vison of Destruction. So yes it is comepletly possable to do a solo build from level one to level twenty. Also the people who fly through the dunegons are zergers, they are annoying and in a lfm you can add "no zerging" and gather players who want to go through the quest slowly, if not you can always "mess up" at cearten points and make the quest slower.
It literally comes down to what kind of build you go with, and which quests you are doing. Most builds can do most stuff on casual, if you can trap and heal you can do nearly anything on normal (and much on hard) that doesn't outright state it requires a group.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to do some reading and consider what kind of character to build to try this out or if one of my existing characters might be good. I just have 4 characters from when I used to play and the highest is a level 11 Ranger who's spec I think is called "Deep Woods" if I recall correctly, a focus on ranged combat and probably more of a group oriented character. I made another ranger that I didn't play yet but sent some gear to, thinking I'd make him more melee capable, I forget the name associated with that spec. The other two are a new Sorcerer and Cleric. I have a Warforged Wizard too I think but he's locked until I buy another character slot or sub. Not sure if any of these would be suitable to try solo but I did read a lot about them at the time I was making them and they were all characters I thought I would enjoy playing. Maybe I need a multiclass built to cover all the bases for dungeon delving.
Monk is highly recommended for solo play,as well as sorcerer,wizard/rogue and balanced paladin

Thanks very much. I remember when Monks were new and everyone in my guild was rolling them. I think I am going to need more character slots. I'm on the fence about whether to sub or buy content, etc. as I go. I guess I'll need to sit down and do a little analysis there to try and figure out which is the best option.
Just get a hireling
I have solod from level 1 to my current level 11, with Hireling solo play is great, you can always summon a hireling if things get to tuff or you need healing ect. Barbarian Half Orc 32 point build FTW

That is awesome they put hirelings into the game. I wonder what best choice would be to pair with an 11 sniper ranger, maybe a fighter or a paladin? Where and how does one get a hireling btw?

You know I'm really interested in this game. When I was playing WoW, I was only (and I mean ONLY) doing dungeons in 5 man groups. I loved playing them every single time. Could this be the ultimate game for me?
Yep, just grab a healer hireling and you can solo with whatever character you want.
You have few dificulty lvls so solo and party is possible but i personally prefere party for more exp and funn

There are hireling vendors in several parts of the city, the ones in the marketplace cover the most levels (I think they're toward the southeast of the marketplace map). I usually grab a healer(most often cleric), it's easier and faster than a stack of potions.
the only bad thing is you can't do open world pvp and there is no evil alignment choices. they should leave it up to the players, not just remove it from the game. if you weren't supposed to play evil characters, why did they let us choose it with pencil and paper d&d in the first place ? not everyone likes to play the goody two shoes and save the world 24/7 ... back to zombie master 2 postal 2 & the origional red faction! at least there I can kill people / destroy things that annoy me to relieve stress.
also take a rogue with you if you didnt make one cause you will miss treasure chests without a mechanic rogue to open locked areas / disarm traps.
