Dungeons & Dragons Online®

I cannot do anything. "an update error occurred: server connection timed out."
I have downloaded the game and have went through the preparations in the menu, the only problem is that I am stuck there. It seems the game is attempting to download a patch or update of sorts, but the bar showing the progress is stuck at 33%, it stays there for a time and then the above appears in place of "Connecting to patch s...", and in place of the 33% is the word "failed". It stays like this for 60 secounds and then continues this process, It has been doing this for a good long time now, as I type this now matter of factly. Can you please help me figure this out? Perhaps some of you has had this problem?

This is seriously ticking me off and I would appreciate any help that you could give me.
Type of error has been seen before, usually a routing issue (in that your failing to connect to the particular ddo server)

If you have a look on the DDO forums there are several posts about the issue, ways to check if its the same thing and possibel solutions.

for example:
https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/421668-Update-Error-Occured-Server-Connection-Timed-Out?s=4284271fb98987f5a6af17c4ea6c6f71

In a command prompt try:
tracert serviceengine.turbine.com

See if it dies somewhere. Could be a bad router somewhere between you and turbine that is misbehaving. I was unable to play the other night because Cogent in Chicago decided to die, and apparently that's the route my connection kept (attempting to be) going through). In the past was issues with ALTER.net dying.

If it is, just wait until the guilty parties fix things. If there isn't...dunno.

I'm assuming you've no issue with anything else online (i.e. your connection is stable for everythign else), noone on your connection is hogging your bandwidth, and that you did let it run as admin when it asked to.

It means you're a new player. And your firewall isn't set correctly. You have to unblock DDO on your OS, and unblock DDO on your router.

DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL. Simply set it to "stealth mode" or to not reply to unsolicitated requests. If you're doing a whitelist, check your log and go to your routers port assignment.

In some cases SPI can cause issues, so weigh whether disabling SPI is worth it.

I am having the the exact same problem right now. I looked at the forums and it said go into your files and do something like put yourself as admin. for Turbine or something, but I go in my files and and "Turbine" is nowhere to be seen.

To trouble shooting Firewall issues you can disable it to see if that is the cause:

Good luck if your still having issues send me a message: quicker then posting
I can no longer for the life of me find the forum pr page that told me about putting me as admin. to Turbine-something. I am so annoyed right now.
What they said didn't freaking work anyway. I'm throwing this laptop out the window.
Well Ive tried the pen vpn when I open ddo launcher I cant find the proxy thing there talking about either ive downloaded both DDO and Lotro and they all fail in the updates Only thing I can think of is its got something to do with satilite internet maybe with latency issues but if anyone finds a fix or can explain a fix so a pc newb would understand id appreciate it.
DDClient.exe - Is the game
Akiema net sessions - The updater -- Need permission - Firewall blocks this program -
I am also having the update issue. I have tried some solutions that I could find in forums/discussions (deactivating firewall to see if it blocks the game, starting on admin mode, selecting no proxy, adding # in some log to redirect the launcher update - apologies for the phrasing, openly admitting IT illiterate here....) , however the ddo site has been down for maintenance for quite some time now and I cannot research anymore. Are there any more options that I can try to finally get the game going again?
Ty for your help in advance :D
search the ddo forums not the steam for more info it looks like you tried everything i would suggest.
