Apparently Turbine is still investing in DDO

Many games go through server merges when populations drop its just a natural cycle. I was reading an intresting post on the DDO forums about area instances are in a decline. Market was always a bad spot on high peak times: i remember 8 or 9 instances: now you may get 4 on peak times.

Evenging star is the same way lucky to see 2 instances. : While khyber forums is blowing up with horrid lag issues that DDO won't fix or ack.

Edit the protest screenshot is actually funny to read.

I don't really recall 8 or 9 instances of market on the ones I was on, but I *DO* recall bouncing between 1~4 regularily to check brokers on other instances of market. Now days if there *IS* a second instance, it's likely barren in the brokers and not worth the jump.

Only ever see multiple instances during an event like cove. Partially can blame it on players being more spread out but yeah, definte population decline since hey day.

That said: I give permission for you to merge all servers but Thel =P

Hmm, and clear out all dead names - give everyone an email saying 'Hay! We miz u. Play or ur name gunna git it'. Repeat that a month later... then nuke all the names of characters not logged in for three years. Append '~forsaken~' to their names >:p

Also: lazy. Link the protest screenshot?

I'm not expecting to merge all the servers into one, but at least into 2-3 groups.
I don;t post links sits on the DDO forums under khyber Lag protest 2015

Okay. win.
At least a sense of humour is had.

And in respecting 2$hort's urlaphobia, I'll not link, but say it can be found in the Khyber subsection of the forums.

"I Believe I can fly! Oh wait... i'm just lagging"
I just read a new comment on the DDO forums To the DDO producer to clearify his letter.

In the Letter it stated that they are transfering game server and hardware to a new data Center! The question was are the game servers just being moved to a new location or are you buying new servers? Sev~ has yet to responed to the question. I didn't pick up on the language until he brought it up. Transfer means taking existing hardware and moving it to a new location Buying new hardware means what it says. So The forums are waiting on his answer ATM.
True, and that is a contention point.. but..

"The new facility will provide both Dungeons and Dragons Online and our friends over at The Lord of the Rings Online with more stability, greater CPU power, and a better networking capability"

How are they getting more CPU without new hardware? Something in the language isn't fitting here, and a clarification would definitely be wanted. Maybe it's some old, some new?

Still, the network part will be (hopefully) an improvement. DDO suffers in several aspects, and network instability issues are certainly on that list.

---

Under lagging issues, I sooo wish I was running Fraps last night. Making a large mob train on my pally, leapt in a hole, and halfway down, hung. Floated for a few minutes, then suddenly all the mobs fell down the hole, and the pally flew in reverse, back up, backwards, and out of the pit. Glorious kek.
Depends on what the new hardware is going to... Transfering game servers to the new data center.. The question is what is new and what will not be upgraded... The networking hardware looks like its on the upgrade list.
Okay, LOTRO is also effected... and here's a snippet that may or may not have any bloody relevance:

"Our traitorous ex-producer that abandoned us původně napsal:
New Servers and Datacenters: We spoke about this Turbine wide upgrade at the beginning of the year and had expected to have it done by now, but weather and other obstacles set us back. We finally have some progress and we can safely say that by the end of September of 2015 we should have the servers moved to our new datacenters with upgraded hardware and Operating Systems. The US servers will operate from our new datacenter in New Jersey while our EU servers will move back to Europe and reside in our new datacenter in Amsterdam.
- Transfer Systems and Server Merge: To support the move to the upgraded server hardware we will be implementing an improved server transfer service that will run from the game launcher rather than a website. Once implemented, server transfers can be account or character based so that all your account level items including marks, Mithril coins, etc. can be transferred. We are also adding functionality that will allow Kin leaders to disband their Kin on one world and then recreate it on another maintaining status and achievements earned by that Kin over its lifetime. More details and breakdowns on all of this to coming in the next few weeks as we move into final phases of development and testing.

You will have 3 months past the date of the launch of the new service in which to continue playing on the smaller worlds while planning and or making your move to a larger server. After that point your characters will always be available to be transferred to one of the remaining worlds, however you will only be able to log in to the remaining servers. More details on all of this as well as detailed instructions on how to move will be provided in email, in-game mail as well as website and forums in the months to come.

Wonder if say.. Wayfinder might find it's to europe? :P
Or if our lack of details is lack of details to the team so can't clarify yet until stuff is worked out
Wonder if... ddo might get merges afterall.

Or this could have zero relevance.
That was more clear: New hardware and software..... At least LOTR is getting update Siv~ is getting hammered for not communitcating with members of the DDO board.

Clearly references to "new servers", "marks, Mithril coins, etc" and "Kin" have no relevance to DDO. DDO also has no current EU servers unless you count Wayfinder. Since the producer's letter is clear that DDO is also getting a server move (and this calls it a "Turbine wide upgrade"), what we are left to speculate on is whether the "new worlds" and "improved transfer service that will run from the game launcher" apply to DDO or not.
Turbines only Data center is in boston MS: Even all their EU servers are located in boston at this Time. The Only difference between a US server and an EU server is in the Coding.

Transfer our game servers and hardware to the New Data center: I'm sorry that is not clear in any respect. Why are they moving old hardware to the new datacenter? What hardware is being upgraded and what is not? are the DDO game servers on the list for the upgrade? All these are valid questions the DDO forums are asking Sev~

No where in the Producer's letter does is say NEW game Servers, no where does it say Turbine wide upgrade in the producer's letter. That letter was extremely vague in the details of the project. Data centers house not only game servers for the company any person with a tech background knows this.

an frankly when opening the letter with taking great strides in reducing lag and improve stability? Really since when? lag on Khyber is horrid and maybe you get 2 or 3 days after a reset with minor lags until its back again.

Words have meaning and choosing the right words is in biz communication is important when writing any letter clearly Sev~ missed that class in college.

Example: We are launching a new DATA center and upgrading all the Game servers.. See That is a clear sentence.

Using the word transfer is obscure and hiding something.
