Reaper is meant to try and kill you so in that respect it sounds like it's working right. I'd say go back to running normal dungeons (normal, hard, then elite). Get some levels behind you, some better gear and then give Reaper another go if you want to.
OR post here and over on the official forums looking for a non reaper running group or guild and run dungeons with them.
If it's not fun, than don't do it.
First, you have to know what changes in Reaper difficulty.
1) Mobs get tougher: more HP and do more damage.
2) Mobs get better saves.
3) Crowd control durations drop.
4) You get weaker: reduced DPS of all kinds, and GREATLY nerfed self-heal.
5) More and harder Champions.
6) Reapers themselves.
and the one good bit..
5) Picking up 'Lost Souls' restores Spell Points.
The first trick to surviving Reaper before you have much in the way of Reaper points is to not pull aggro. Hit mobs someone else has already harmed. Try not to target Reapers and Champions.. leave those to players with more Reaper experience and Reaper points. If you can, focus on buffing and healing your party members instead of trying to DPS.
And one very useful fact: While healing is reduced at higher Skull levels and self-heal is GREATLY reduced, anything that grants Temporary HP is NOT reduced in any way. So Barbarians with Blood Tribute, Warlocks with various Enhancements, but particularly Shining Through in the Enlightened Spirit Tree, and any other class with Temp HP options will be somewhat more survivable than those depending on cures and pots.
And remember to spend your Reaper Points. They can add to your survivability over time.
Finally, remember that the number of Skulls matters.. a LOT. Try to avoid anything above about 3 Skulls if you want to be able to contribute at all, until you're decently geared and have at least a couple of dozen Reaper Points.
And NEVER STAND STILL. I've survived in ridiculously high Reaper quests on Hardcore with a toon that shouldn't have, simply because I'm constantly in motion and hard to target. Doesn't work with all builds, but keep it in mind.
