And thus, I'm blaming you for this post with the same problem that coincidentally follows yours. :)
I get the 'I don't agree' post, but the 'you should play this other game instead' thing always seems odd to me (even when the comparison is fair and accurate). Umm.. this is in a DDO forum, right? Who exactly is your audience?
On top of that, this entire thread exists to clear the air so there aren't any misconceptions or wrong assumptions or 'lies', so that people (who care to read it) know exactly what they're getting into. At the very least, create a similar thread on your 'go to' game on its forum that lets readers delve into the mechanics of said game and post a link to it here to support your contention that it's 'better'. Your baldly-stated word on it isn't going to convince anyone, it just makes you look like a troll. And nobody's going to do the research to check your assertion if you don't provide it and a link to it.
'Cause frankly, I've tried a number of 'freemium' games and been .. upset .. once I figured out how skewed they were in favor of those who paid. And some of them came highly-recommended.
And, of course, on the topic of 'lies', it would be a good idea if your information were accurate. DDO has no mounts and therefore no paid mounts.
(Edit: No longer true. ;) )
And besides all of the above, you can do (and collect) absolutely everything in DDO except about 3 VIP perks (10% XP boost, first life Elite quest opens and such) without paying a cent (which you would know if you had bothered to read this thread before posting). It would just take some grinding. Possibly even quite a bit of it. But that doesn't change the fact that it's possible.
Some quests that won't work on. Have had issues with it with regards to spells where you teleport and THEN get the option to select difficulty...which requires the other account to step in with you, which can inflict a level-range penalty. Also wouldn't work in a quest where it's a quest access from within a quest - the second half of Tangleroot coming to mind (where you need to enter the deeper section), as does the two-part Velah raid.
So if you don't mind always having a character that's overleveled entering with you (i.e. just want favour) it can work, but if you're trying for a bravery streak, it'd be...yeah.
And I say this while snarling, 'cuz I'm currently farming some TP for another character slot...and running quests three times in a row is boring me to tears (enough so I'm debating just TR'ing someone on Argo and running from scratch - or the more hillarious "I'll just get a month of VIP to farm the points" brain misfire)
You can't find LFMs for Elite runs? Or even just find TRs and run with them?
Frankly i'd rather spend my time with other games: specially with next gen Gameing : DDO is out dated:
DDO is not worth the Subscription any more:

If they sold 'Open on Elite' as a permenant thing in the store, I'd do it.
Wait, what? PUG? People do that?
*amused* due to things over a decade ago, I'm a rather devout soloist. Mabar dragon was the only time I'd PUG. Hm, well that and the Rhakgoul Plague world event in SWTOR; pitched battles in Outlaws Den versus enemy raids AND world bosses at the same time was just too much fun.
Well, so would I, but still.
I virtually never don't PUG. I'm playing an MMO for a reason, you know, and it's not to play what is essentially a single-player D&D game; there are plenty of those around to play.
Hm, my bad, I listed functional contributions. If it just sits at the entrance though, you're able to do with a lot less. Every third like you said, need 6 in all.
Considering been playing MMOs since '00, heard all the reasons *shrug* It's an MMO, not MMO-in-a-party. You're all just funny NPCs with less spellchecked dialogue =P
I do, in fact have a 2nd computer with a F2P account containing elite openers. I only set this up so my 1st and 2nd life toons on my Premium account can zerg low level content without worrying about an opener. I usually post an LFM and allow others to come along for the ride if they want. I don't bother to do this above about L8 quests (i.e. I start PUGging). I only have 2 openers (L3 and L7).
I don't solo everything and I don't run the toon on the F2P account to the quests. If your party contains an elite opener who can open because they have unlocked it (i.e. NOT a VIP), many quests don't require that toon to step in, and thus its level is relatively irrelevant (aside from the 'All members of your party must be high enough level'-type messages).
This is DDO tho, so there are exceptions. Collaborator, Kobold Assault, Gwylans, Bounty Hunter, Guard Duty (3BC) and a few other quests require the opener to.. well.. open (i.e. step in). And, any quest series requires the opener to run quest to quest to advance the storyline (Catacombs, Waterworks, even pt. 2 of Fire Caves and Garls in 3BC). Generally I skip or PUG those (since I'm doing 1st & 2nd lives, I'm not starving for XP). {Sometimes I HAVE run Catacombs and had the F2P toon run back and forth to advance the story (and step into quests) and the Premium toon just goes down a level and runs the next quest.. no end reward for the Premium, but Catacombs doesn't have any good ones anyway. I only bother because the quest-to-quest run is so trivial for the Premium toon.}
I'm specifically doing this to blitz, so running 2 toons to every quest just isn't of interest to me.
I guess even though this is a rather esoteric workaround that wouldn't work for everyone, it does qualify as allowing Elite opens for free on 1st & 2nd lives. OTOH, I'm pretty sure I forgot a VIP perk or two that you can't fake, so it probably balances out. :)
You are entitled to your opinion, of course, but specifics as to what you have found disappointing and/or outdated would make this post relevant to this thread (which it currently isn't).
Researching what levels would be required to get you working openers all the way to L20 (or beyond) would be onerous as hell: you'd have to plan to use them on a lot of toons (or just go with the every 3 levels-type progression and possibly build one or two more toons than would be optimum). Even an avid soloer would probably be better off to bite the bullet and PUG two lives per toon.
Levelling my two openers on my F2P account felt like a huge time investment as it was, though the TP they farmed did buy me a couple of low level packs to use them in. :)
Still, by setting myself up to have openers up to L8 quests, I can easily elite-farm TP on a new toon if I ever so desire. (These days, if I'm farming TP, it's on Bladeforged 13sorc/2pal toons.. it's sooo quick and easy. Leveling the toon feels like the biggest time investment.. which encourages me to do more than a 100 favor farm per toon. These are also my bank toons. I farm Coin Lord and House K favor on them to open the additonal bank and inventory slots).
I've bemoaned that exact lack more than once in-game. Single-use elite opens .. if you have enough $$ to buy the TP for that, you'd be better off to go VIP that month; it would probably cost less.
The big one is : AI DDO believe that challenges isn't AI but Just swarms of creatures or 1 mobs with 350k HP's --- Thats not fun or challenging
Really Compare DDO Graphics to new games - Out dated-
Just my 2 cents, put alot of time and money into a company that puts out junk updates, cut and paste maps, Same old crap AI -
A game that has little or no LFM's anymore for epic content, Vale runs are becoming rare, and frankly waiting 30min just to fill a grp to run an EE run.
There are way better games to play today -
Shadow of M -
SC:GO -
SR3
Saints Row 4, the graphics are amazing.
Alien isolation: Stunning Graphics and The hardest AI i ever went up against on easy-
Team fortress 2 Really good Free 2 play from what i read on reviews
I could Go on and on but why bother.
But 1 less Vip and the last of remain VIP's who started my guild early this year - 10 all together and every new player i iever invited stop playing after maybe a month even after help 25% of them hit level 20 on f2p accounts. What is the point at throwing good money into a game that they can't even get ladders to work properly.
The new and improved Hires is a joke and are even worse - THEY STILL can't HEAL them SELVES
Necro Epic is nothing new or ground breaking same old crap with a bow on it/spin
Shadomage is retired from DDO- since you can't sell acounts he may caome out of retirement.
Oh yea try and manually remove your CC info from turbine you can't have to call and deal with thier crappy Customer service. *never have i seen that before playing MMORPG's*
yet u cant deny the others hahaha. typical pay to win fan boy.
