Forgotten Realms Question
I'm a returning player from long ago. At the character log in screan, it gives you an option to "Transport to Forgotten Realmes". If I buy the needed points to open up the passport to FR, do I need to buy some extra "Forgotten Realms" adventure pac too? Or can I start playing my low level character there?

I'd suggest not bothering with it.

The quests in Faerun *start* at level 15.

Without access to any packs, you'll only be able to do the vector quest to Wheloon (a trio of level 15 quests), the Hospital and Hag quests (19), the Dragon Helm quest (16), and the Mansion Mystery quest (26).

Not worth it. By the point you can do those quests, you could just do the 'crossing' quests which are also free (Lords of Dust chain, level 16).

You can purchase the Menace of the Underdark expansion, which is the Forgotten Realms paid expansion, from the DDO Store. The expansion is some of the best content DDO has ever released and is worth it in my opinion. If you purchase the level 15 Iconic classes, you can also start a character at level 15 and play the Forgotten Realms content immediately. http://store.turbine.com/store/turbine/en_US/pd/ThemeID.29252200/productID.246618200/categoryID.58516100
So to clarify:

Do not buy the Hall of Heroes passport crap that lets you go to Faerun.

Instead buy Menace of the Underdark Expansion, which gives you a lot more quests in Faerun when you can get there, the getting there being then free when you're of level to actually do things there.

Note: if you're under 15, and expect to be for a while, wait on getting MotU. It goes on sale seemingly twice a year for 75% off.

----------------

At level 16 there is a series of free quests in the Harbour that culminate in crossing over to Faerun. Thereafter that character merely needs to go to the Harbour to cross over to Realms.

If you have MotU, you can acquire enough favour with a faction in Realms to obtain a Key to Eveningstar. This item lets you teleport to eveningstar once every thirty minutes.

So really, no NEED for that Transport thing. It's really just a luxery perk for VIP users, and people with Iconic Characters (in their case, the character can use the transport option, but other characters on the account cannot).

As mentioned above, the Passport is simply a convenience item.. and of questionable convenience at that. There are 3 ways to get from Eberron to Faerun.

1) Run a series of 4 F2P L16 quests in the Harbor. Once they are complete, you can run from an entrance in the Harbor through a cave in Eberron that links to a cave in Faerun which exits at the south end of Eveningstar.

2) Buy the Menace of the Underdark expansion which gives you access to quests that provide Purple Dragon Knight favor. 125 PDK favor provides you with a Key to the City of Eveningstar that will teleport you from Eberron to Faerun at will (aside from the 30min. cooldown). It drops you in the central square of the city of Eveningstar (generally where you want to be). (Without that expansion, as mentioned above, there's really a limited amount of content in Faerun).

3) Buy the Hall of Heroes Passport. To use it, you have to log your toon out in Eberron and log back in using the Passport. This lacks something in convenience, not to mention that DDO has a known issue where logging out and back in has been known to cause the game to behave erratically (usually takes more than once, but 3 or 4 relogs without restarting the client is often sufficient). The Passport drops you in the Hall of Heroes in Eveningstar (I assume.. I don't have it, but that's what the name suggests), which is close to the center of the action as well.

Keep in mind that the lowest level quests in Faerun are L15, so there's no place there to run your newly-created character unless it's Iconic (access to some of which is included in the MotU expansion as well).

Actually, there's a 4th (old school) way if your toon has been to Faerun before, you can always bind there and /death to get back. It's of questionable value because it will terminate any of the old style ship buffs you may have active.

Also, there's one additional way to return: Teleport works from Faerun to Eberron, but there's no Faerun teleport destinations (aside from the aforementioned Key to the City).

the passport is only a cute lazy work around to log into a hall of hero's that all iconic's get for free. Unlock your content/storage well before you unlock that pass....
