Dungeons & Dragons Online®

Microsoft Net Framework 1.1
My game is unable to run due to every time I try to launch the game it attempts to launch first time instillation (not the first time i've played the game) though it has been a while. I've done my due diligence and researched and saw a similar post not that long ago as well as googled none of the solutions of installing 1.1 or of deleting/renaming a .blob were viable. According to microsoft's website framework 1.1 is not at all compatible with windows 8/ 8.1 and it essentially suggests that the program get an upgrade and if not to bugger off. The other suggestion on microsoft's website is if I understood it to downgrade my own framework to simultaniously have 1.1 which seems like a massive bother and like it could cause potential damage. So my question is can I remedy this or do I just delete and move on?
-Yes I have un-installed and re-installed don't even go there.-

TL;DR Microsoft told me to go die help.

Open a ticket with Turbine technical support. They will be able to provide a step by step solution for you. .NET 1.1 can't be uninstalled to the best of my knowledge, as it is an embedded part of the Windows environment.

Idk what MS suggests is the problem with installing .Net 1.1 on Win8, but hundreds of us have done it and I haven't heard of any issues from it. All the .Net versions coexist fine. If for some reason you can't or won't install .Net 1.1 or it doesn't function, you won't be able to play DDO. There's no evidence it will use the newer versions. If the 1.1 version is not compatible, why does it exist on the Windows Update site for those versions? It's not an automatic update tho, you have to go to Windows Update and find it under Recommended Updates (or whatever the exact terminology might be).

Note that DDO ALSO wants Microsoft C/C++ 2005 Redistributable. Not sure exactly which error you're seeing, but check that one too.
Meta: use the preloader. http://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/420738-How-to-make-the-game-loading-faster-DDOPreload-official

The issue is the game takes so long to load into memory the network connection times out. The preloader caches it first, so the timeout doesn't happen. Does mean you'll be loading ddo through that and not steam though.
Oh wait, loads BEFORE character selection? And (as per thread) it has 1.1 .NET isntalled? hmm.

Firewall springs to mind first if you've another box with win7 and it's working. I saw a bunch of Win8 issues if it were Win8 release (and people blaming skype), but seems to have died down since. Was also an issue with patching but supposedly since solved.

Hi thank you for the replies i'll check the C++ now but as for the alleged incompatibility http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh925570%28v=vs.110%29.aspx just to prove im not making things up. Beyond that i've tried downloading it and at the first instant when you try to install it it says it has an issue with no remedy in terms of compatibility and then if you tell it to run anyway the installation fails (obviously). Thank you for the past and future suggestions.
Oh there is nothing 'alleged'...Microsoft is being a GRRR on this.
But there *are* plenty of Win 8.1 players, who managed to get .NET 1.1 on it and ddo working.

So it's a case of 'this doesn't work' while 'actually working if you ram stuff at it'.

Interesting.. I never even saw a warning when I installed it.
