Just because it's not supported doesn't mean its not runnable. PoL, Wine, and Crossover are used in virtualizing windows to play games like this. I have Skyrim, Tera, Dragon's Dogma, and even Dark Souls installed and runable even though they don't support it. I've seen the websites where people have done gotten DDO installed and working successfully, but those were in late 2009. So it is possible, the solution is just buried. And I cannot find it myself.
Yeah, thats what I'm afraid I'll have to do. I've been avoiding dual-booting and virtual machines for a while now :(
Tried launching with Pylotro as well as the Turbine launcher
Akamai Netsession is used by DDO to stream the download. Sounds like that's the software that's not running or connecting to the internet or whatever. Sometimes it's a firewall issue.
Ah, yeah. That's actually the program I have to kill to get the turbine launcher to even start. I could try killing it and restarting it when I need it. But I'm not sure if the Pylotro launcher uses it. Since I don't have to kill the process, I'd say "no", but I could be wrong.
You won't need Netsession once the game has updated itself, but it's how the initial update to game files is handled, unfortunately. Without it, you're dead in the water. Once you've a fully-updated client, you can uninstall Netsession if you want and (most) future updates won't require it as long as you don't fall too far behind (i.e. don't launch the game through a couple of updates or so). I'm not up on the details on all of this, though. Could be you could find more on the official forums at ddo.com. Short version, though, is that without successfully launching Netsession, you can't sync the client files initially, and without that, the launcher fails to bootstrap the game.
I actually fully copied over my windows download from my laptop into a wine prefix on my desktop. It's fully updates (unless there was an update 3 days ago). But I am still stuck on "retrieving content list" via launching the Turbine launcher, and stalling on the output page after starting up the Pylotro launcher.
Mainly, my question above was what packages should I be using, cause I believe I may be missing one. Since these packages were used to successfully launch DDO back in 2009.
Even so, if that's where it's stalling, it has probably lost whatever flag tells it it's up to date and doesn't require Netsession anymore (Registry entry, perhaps?) or else it's hitting a closed port on the update request. FWIW, DDO has changed how they push updates since 2009. Briefly used Panda, iirc. But if I'm wrong, I can't help you. My UNIX background is almost 30 years old and I've never used Linux.
What ports does DDO use? and do you know what flag tell it it's updates?
I didn't have to open any ports, pylotro just needs to be pointed to a wine prefix where the game is installed. Make sure you' have the right permisions set and pylotro properly configured. PyLOTRO also has a patcher under tools menu,
It patches alright, the problem is it hangs once i enter my password and hit enter... let it sit for 10 minutes and got no-where. The "Output" window where you can either abort or exit is where its stuck. I know its connecting cause when I type in the wrong password, it says so. It also displays the message of the day stuff (the "Never Be Unprepared!" and some notices about july 15th-21st)
