Reason was saying is there are the two expansions, of which Underdark can be bundled with some quests - which I think include some Taebrythn listed. Can't check because yeah.
Those also go on sale, and if you can get that then, it is a huge 'score' for discount. Seen it up to 75% off, which is pretty much 'free content' for what you'd get.
Was/Is also a 'Landlubber Bundle' which includes some of those as well. Might be worth waiting a few days before pulling the trigger on packs?
Definately would back Tae's 3bc suggestion, it is fun. Or fustrating. One of the two :P
Sands and Vault are fun, and Gianthold useful and fun. All in all a good balanced list. Plus all things that would be useful again once you hit epic, so not just a 'good for now' set of quests.
Would also back the 'Say no to Temple'. It's evil, and personally I only actually liked the first parts of the second part. First part is just same-and -same.

this was from quartermaster on the ddo forums. another way is if you buy a ton of points now you can buy the packs as you go too. so there is some ways of doing it too.
The 3 must haves:
- Vale of twillight. Multiple raids, heroic and epic, some nice unique items. A must have
- Giantshold. My favorite zone. Few raids. Heroic and epic. Many different items. A must have
- Orchard, necropolis 4. Heroic and epic. Many different items on epic and hits a nice sweet level-spot in heroic to transition between Giantshold and Vale. Has raid as well.
Great:
- Vault of night (VoN). Jungle of khyber and Haywire foundry are really nice quests, and it has a nice raid with SoS "Sword of Crits", a nice weapon for many melee classes imo (if you are lucky enough to get one).
- Demon sands. Raiyum and offering of blood are two very nice quests. A nice mid range zone. An epic area. And a quite fun raid/boss fight.
- Shadowfell Conspiracy. Heroic and Epic. Has some nice items of +8 stat minimum level 15 (Wheloon). And 2 good xp quests: Mirror and What goes up. Might only be nice-to-have, because in my opinion, it would have been better with a raid.
Nice-to-have
- Three barrel cove. It has many unique and interesting items and a epic counterpart as well. Nice-to-have because its quests are not frequently run in epic, it hits a low heroic level where packs are not needed, and it has no raid.
- Devil's gambit. This one and archons is mostly for items. They are more recent packs with harder content and better loot. Both of them have epic as well.
- Archon's trial. Has a small raid for epic as well, unlike Devil's gambit.
- Menance of the underdark. A quite nice experience if you want epic levels. Quite a few quests, multiple wilderness areas, and a raid.
Alright
- Sentinels of stormreach. Mainly be for "Spies in the house". A quest that seems frequently run in epic levels. Also nice to get Saga xp/book if you have Three-barrel-cove
- Necropolis 2. Mainly for shadow crypt. A nice quest to get a lot of xp around level 13-14.
Meh-tier
- Delera's. Voice of masters (VoM) and Carniflex. If I remember correctly then I think part 2 is a decent xp-quest. This tier mostly because once you have VoM you do not really need it, and since all its quests are spread out in a chain on various levels it can be quite difficult to get bravery bonus on all. An alternative would be threnal, it has a +5% xp item as well and is cheaper. However, I think the quests are worse, even if they hit a level range where the xp is needed more. (Spoiler: Escort and defend for 15 minutes... urgh).
- Necropolis 1. If you play in a static group of 2 or 4+ people, then bloody crypt can be a really nice xp quest by splitting up.
- Phiarlan Carnival. Has some decent low level quests you may or may not find fun, and a epic counterpart. Partycrashers is someones favorite quest i bet, but it is my nightmare.
- Druids deep, High road, Red fens. All of them have some decent quests and a epic counterpart, but nothing too fancy. Druids deep and high road are used in multiple sagas I believe and they are high level. Two good reasons to take them up to "alright", or at least before red fens.
I would avoid everything else for now: I can't comment on Temple of elemental evil, Haunted halls of eveningstar, and shadow under thunderholme because I do not own them.
Edit: As has been said, I would also avoid 32 point. True reincarnating your character (which you will do eventually), will take it straight up to 34 point.
In general things that can be earned server wide includes:
- Drow
- Veran status (start at level 3)
- 32 point characters
- Favored Soul
- Veteran status 2 (Start at level 7)
All of the above is done through total favor.
- Haper enhancement tree (The harpers)
- Artificer (House C favor)
Another thing is, it might be worth looking into the Necropolis bundle or the landlubber, if you were getting them all eventually. Necropolis 3 and Attack on stormreach are not bad, there is just not anything special about them.
Agreed. A lot of older packs has gotten love over the years (Like three barrel cove) and they became really nice packs after that. I started out by buying VIP for a month while saving TP, then when VIP ran out I bought packs. You get all the content for a month so you can see if you really like the game, you get to see what content you like, and get to unlock most of the favor rewards. For free accounts it also serves as the purchase to get premium.
As a bonus, you can also open quests straight to elite on your first life. If your character is pretty strong or you go slow, then you can keep bravery bonus on elite going and level quite quickly. You can do that as well without VIP, but you would have to find groups instead of setting up your own group.
The older the game gets, the better a new player is served by subscribing. Premium works best over long term or if you're informed and picky about the packs.
Other than that, don't buy quest packs below about L12 until you've collected some high-level content. (Some would say buy Delera's anyway, but the 5% xp token that's the usual reason isn't a big deal first life.)
As for races, Half-Orc is mainly compelling for Barbarians (or possibly Fighters). The stat penalties probably won't hurt some Ranger builds, but the Cha penalty is probably a no-no for most Paladins. I seldom use Half-Elf and Warforged and Gnome are generally used for casters (WF because they can self-heal with arcane spells). WF do make decent Fighters and Barbarians, but their penalty to incoming healing means you tend to want an arcane caster friend nearby who's willing to Repair you.
This. Really... This. Unless you know up front you're going to be playing for years, just subscribe. You get more stuff than you'll likely be willing/able to buy right away and you get access to all of it immediately. You can open quests on elite first run if you want (if you do so consistently at-level, there's a considerable xp bonus for doing so.)
Here's the comparison between subscribing (VIP), Premium (Bought TP with RL $$ or used to be VIP) and F2P.
http://ddowiki.com/page/Account_comparisons
If you sub, you only ever have to buy the expansions and Epic Eestinies (possibly Iconic races if you don't buy a version of the expansion that includes them). The included 500TP/month will allow you to do so over time without ever investing more than the monthly (or annual) fee.
Obviously nobody can make such a decision for you. All we can do is point out the tradeoffs. At $15./mo (monthly sub) or $8.25/mo (annual sub at $99.), it's up to you to decide how much gameplay is worth that outlay. But if you go Premium, the issue is of potentially "buying" the game and not liking it enough to keep playing and/or of running into content limits that will make you stop enjoying the game. The risk with subbing is that you don't play enough.. so you stop subbing. If you "buy" and the game shuts down, you lose your purchases. Anyway, as I say; only you can decide what best fits your life and budget.
