Installing Pre-Reqs
(I have the same issue on both Steam and the non-Steam version. I'm using the default launcher and I've already tried disabling my firewall, running as admin, running from the .exe (not shortcut) and many other things.)

The launcher is stuck on installing pre-reqs. I've scanned every other thread from every other website and I still can't find a working solution. My parents have played DDO on this computer for years, but they recently stopped. Now that my friend is willing to play, and I have a Premium account, I might as well start myself.

So, any ideas?

It may also be worth mentioning I'm on Vista SP2.

did you try logging in when the servers were down? that tends to happen. another thing is check ddo forums for issues or their facebook page. sometimes you might see something.

I checked the FB page, and there was nothing to be found. I am, right now, running the launcher and I have been for about a half hour non-stop to no avail. For this period I've been using the non-Steam launcher.

Should I just go ahead and do a reinstall? What will I lose by doing it?
Also, if I delete the local content of the Steam version of DDO, will it delete the non-steam version?

I had the same problem not long ago. Reinstalling the operation system 100% works. Try to do that.

Um....as in Windows itself? I'd rather just stop trying to play DDO than reinstall Vista...

"Installing Pre-reqs" probably means it's trying to install a couple of Windows components: Microsoft .Net 1.1 and Microsoft C++ Runtime 2005. These will coexist with other versions of the same, but windows often doesn't handle the dependencies as well as it should. Navigate to Windows Update and find them in the Optionals section. Install them as Admin.

If that doesn't solve the problem, the next most likely issue is a firewall that won't let a connection through. The connection could be for DDO itself or for Akamai Netsession, which DDO uses to push installs and major updates.

Hope one of those helps.

Yep, I saw the thread where you originally posted that.
I'm currently downloading things that are related to .Net 1.1, but not the actual thing. I know that I already have both of them installed, along with all of DDO's dependecies.

It still isn't working.

Also, the Community, Account, and Support buttons don't work.

Then I'd bet on firewall.

At this point, I've just given up.

you could just download the launcher outside of steam
Senjuro Oct 2, 2016 @ 12:56am
or get into the directory of the game and delete the redist installers which keep getting launched by steam
