PM Unholy Avatar.
Can someone please test Unholy Avatar to confirm my suspicion that it doesn't work?

I've just been into Ravenloft and tried to do the quest "Into the Mists". I just kept healing the first undead guy that I came across, the guy who is surrounded by the wolves.

Either I don't understand how the mechanic works, or it's bugged.

As far as I know, there is no toggle switch for it, like there is with the shrouds. All I have to do, according to the tool tip, is use a damage dealing negative energy spell on an undead, to make it vulnerable to negative energy damage.

No matter what I do though, no matter what spell I use, all I seem to keep doing, is healing undead.

As far as I know you don't have to heal him. Just kill the wolves and he should start talking to you.

I've done the quest with a barb and a soc and didn't do anything special with him to advance the plot.

Yeah, I know you can do it that way, but that's the easy way :P.

I like killing him just for the ♥♥♥♥ of it.

Just strikes me as the avatar skill doesn't entirely work properly yet.

I'm going to do more testing in Ravenloft.

Truth be told though, PM now has shot right up from being nothing more than a support tree, to being my favourite class now. I just wish that the developers would have given them more useful SLA's, like Necrotic Bolt for instance. If they did that though, it would probably make the class too OP, especially when used with the Deep Gnome Heroic Class, which is what I am currently specced as, Can't wait to get to 20 now though, what with the Death Aura SLA. For that class, 3 Death Aura spells and Negative Energy Burst is OP healing,

I'm a total Newb, but I did not think you could use a negative energy spell to damage undead.

"All I have to do, according to the tool tip, is use a damage dealing negative energy spell on an undead"

But I dont know really.

Yeah, I didn't think of it like that. I just read the tool tip display and took it for granted that he would become vulnerable to Negative Energy dps if attacked with any DPS based Negative Energy spell. You are right though. Up to now, Negative Energy spells have always healed undead. In that respect, the new skill is a little vague and contradictory.

But this is what the tool tip says according to DDO Wiki: "You are cloaked in the darkness itself, and can reach out with your Negative Energy Spells to taint the Undead with mortality. When you strike an Undead with a damage-dealing Negative Energy Spell, it leaves a lingering weakness to Negative Energy that bypasses an Undead's natural resistance to Negative Energy. Only works while in a Shroud form."

The vulnerability to Negative Energy spells, is exactly what makes that one skill absolutely necessary for any PM player.

I am always in shroud form. There's no point playing a PM if you don't use the shroud form. You'd be better off playing an AM. As far as I know, spells like Necrotic Bolt, Negative Energy Burst and Death Aura should work, since they deal damage, but with that guy in Ravenloft that I was talking about earlier, that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems to work as intended in other parts of the game, like Eberron. I did finish Lords of Dust successfully. I just wonder if that part of the game is bugged? and if it is, to what extent is the rest of the game bugged?

For now, I'm going to carry on testing.

Is that guy undead? Have you verified that with other undead?
