As Taebrythn noted above, SSG recently altered their expansion sales plans/packages. So it makes sense to change them on Steam too.
Could go either way for all I know. They’ve in the past wanted to do more with Steam, but couldn’t due to challenges which I don’t think were fully stated.
I don't know how the system works, but maybe it's like a store where they buy X number of TV's and when they sell them they have to get more.
If that's the case than Steam bought X number of DDO & LotRO expansions / packs and are slowly selling them off and SSG isn't letting them get anymore. My guess is because the money percentage steam keeps from all sales or charges to offer them.
Hmm come to think of it. It’s worth noting that the first two expansions were never made available in DDO’s in-game store—those two which have been available on Steam and the DDO marketplace.
As far as I’m aware all the expansions have only ever been sold in 2 locations at a time: always DDO Market and then either in-game, or Steam. So perhaps there is something to that. Maybe it has something to do with how the licensing works.
Applicable to the OP:
It’s probably a good bet anyway, that if they really do stop selling these two expansions through Steam, that they’ll end up being purchasable in the in-game store. And you’ll probably still be able to buy points using the Steam Wallet.
As for Steam, all I know is they get a percentage of sales from games sold through the Steam Store. It’s possible that a game like DDO, which is basically only selling DLC, could have some more unique contract, which is different from what would be a default on Steam. I’ve posted something like this before. But I’ve still never seen details on things like that.
I wouldn't read too much into that. When the first two Expansions came out, they simply weren't selling Expansions in the in-game store; they wanted real-world $$ for them. Putting them on Steam would've still had that effect. Also, that was Turbine, not Standing Stone: new owners, new policies.
Clearly SS is willing to sell expansions in the in-game store. And they've changed the packages for the expansions on the DDO Marketplace relatively recently (changing the URL in the process: a bad move, imo.. people still might go to the old URL: I have). I expect all of that adds up to the likelihood that those expansions will also end up in the DDO Store soon: probably this year.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the only current way to buy MotU. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.
That wasn't clear in the comment? Turbine didn't sell the expansions in the in-game store.
Or am I remembering wrong? Did that change before the game changed hands?
Nah. Just expressing my opinion based on what I recall.
Their prices are ridiculous, an insult to gamers, don't deserve any support. Actually, how good is their support? Lol non existing? If they don't support players, why do you think they deserve players to support them?!?!? Makes no sense. I sent them a ticket, waited days, weeks, crickets, no reply. Don't give a f. The only thing they care about is your money. Greedy as hell.
MotU used to be sold on Steam recently, for around $24 I think, which was already way too expensive for its value, I was kinda interested, so I was waiting for a sale. The sale is taking forever, even now, when many RPGs are doing their Summer sales, with discounts like 60% off, no sales on steam for the DLC this company sells. The greed is too much.
On their site, MotU goes for $34. Lol really? What a joke. For a very old expansion, a game full of bugs that they don't even care to fix? Bro pls. You're out of your minds, SSG. I bought Black Desert on Steam for $5, on a discount, the normal price was $10. Read that again 10 or 5 bucks for a COMLPETE MMO with loads of content, certainly much more content than MotU expension and they wanna charge $34 for an old expansion? Get real. That is insane. Too much greed. After all this, leveling up taking forever on 2nd life for new player, almost no content after lvl 13 for new players especially on 2nd life and up, all the bugs, extreme lag, no support, greed, I changed my mind, not going to spend any money on this greedy company. Don't support them if you have a brain.
I have no idea where that $34. price you mention comes from, since currently on their site you can't buy MotU solo as far as I can tell and $34. has never been its price even when it was sold that way.
But I do take issue with you first complaining that a F2P game doesn't have enough free content and then implying that you paid something for that free content and therefore didn't get your money's worth.
You may well deem the expansions to be too expensive. They're also completely optional content. Don't like the price? Don't pay it. Has nothing whatosever to do with the game itself nor its value. I don't know how many people will still be playing Black Desert 15 years after it released. But there sure are a lot still playing DDO.
Now if you want to complain that you don't think you get your monies worth for the price (too short, too simple etc...) you'd have a valid complain, but too OLD?
Haha. Well there are things to complain about in every game. Your post is beyond absurd though. SSG is open to feedback from ALL DDO players, even when it comes to sales. They’ve literally done sales because of player demand, so you being rude in your impatience to wait for a sale is silly and unnecessary.
Also, it’s unfair to say SSG “support is nonexistent” without evidence. People report getting helped by support regularly. Sometimes it takes long because they’re overloaded. Sometimes problems just can’t be fixed easily. Some problems it says in their terms, that they won’t take responsibility for. That’s just reality.
I think you probably did run into some legitimate issues. But the way your voicing them makes it pretty hard to take you seriously or help.
BDO is a Korean MMO. Korean MMO’s have a worldwide reputation of being greedy cash grabs. That’s not an old reputation; that’s not a new reputation—That’s the ONLY reputation they’ve ever had worldwide. Not bashing Koreans, that’s just the truth about how their MMO’s are designed. They took what WoW did with addiction psychology to the extreme and made it a norm. It’s such common knowledge, I don’t even need a source. Yet...
Here’s an example, directly from the BDO Steam Discussions with a nice and informative video detailing even how they; according to the posted video, and I’ll paraphrase, wrongly take advantage of people who have gambling addictions:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/582660/discussions/0/3110278728387331283/
The evidence leads me to think, even without ever having played BDO, that it was marketed from the start to appeal to wealthy Koreans who want to flaunt over less fortunate Koreans in PvP. https://www.tentonhammer.com/news/black-desert-online-reveals-outrageous-store-prices
BDO will let less fortunate players play for free, so they can sell products that make it easy for the wealthy to win at PvP. But not if you want the English version—Nope, then you have to pay to be able to lose to rich Koreans in PvP. Heck even Wikipedia says that. But the evidence of BDO pay to win greedy trash is comically easy to find.
https://www.blackdesertfoundry.com/why-you-shouldnt-buy-the-pearl-store-tent/
Compared to Black Desert Online’s greed, DDO is almost charity. They’re not even properly relatable. DDO sells things yeah; it’s a business too. It’s wise not to forget that. It does create some conflicts of interests with players who want to spend as little to no money as possible, and also not take part in the community by playing with others (the point of the game being F2P).
DDO has whales too. But DDO whales aren’t spending $160k, nor being taken advantage of the way Black Desert does. My guess is a DDO whale might have spent $2k-$3k in 10 years. And IF one has, a good portion of that was probably spent on their guild, friends, and buying quest content for others; not gambling or a PvP item advantage.
So the truth is, playing DDO instead of BDO will protect you from BDO’s greed and player abuse, because there’s little to nothing to waste so much money on in DDO.
But hey, If you like BDO’s gameplay, that’s fine. Play what you want. But seriously then why not play it, instead of spouting nonsense here? It sounds like you’re just upset because SSG didn’t bend to your will the way you want, and so you decided to try and spread hate. Good for them. I’m glad they don’t give in to tantrums. It helps maintain a good community where we don’t have to lie about player numbers the way that video says Black Desert probably does.
I’ll stick with DDO if BDO is the alternative lol.
