New and returning player tips
I've been gradually getting back into this game over the last month. First I created a fancy new Druid, then gradually did the Korthos quests, up to Elite on all of them, since I'm Premium and and have to start at Normal.. sigh... So needless to say, that's a lot of redoing the same dungeons.

Now Korthos is complete and I have to remember what I used to do... you know.. the things you thought of while playing the game with a different character and think, man, next time I start over/TR, I want to do these things in this order... I'm sure I had a hundred of them, such as getting all the small bags first and foremost, But I can't remember every priority I used to do. I believe the bag givers where, Baudry*, The gem quest guy, and the guy at the gate to the Marketplace.

Would anyone care to think of, sort of a check list of priorities, and just general things to do once you get free of Korthos, for new and, forgetful, returning players like myself?

My auto-lvl 10 I created the last time around came with a hireling. I don't know if you can swap them using shared storage, but if so than this week is a prefect time to get one free.

Pretty sure those are BTC. I made a L7 Vet Status II toon the other day that had one as well.
Seems to be new since last time I did it.

Yea I just tried it, got a 'can't put in account bank' when I tried to move it over to the shared storage. Oh well, just a thought.

I don't think they're Gold Seal, either. Just a freebie. The one that comes with the Starter Pack is a Gold Seal hire, so you can summon her anywhere in a quest, or even multiple times (assuming the timer allows).

Worst offenders are the dice roll and the connection icon...

Once you have the layout the way you want it, store it for after your next reincarnation (/ui layout save layoutname and /ui layout load layoutname).
Those are some pretty thorough tips. Half of which I didn't know about. Thanks again!

Question... What's the connection icon?

And ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I didn't know you could save your UI Layout!!

Then I run to the Banker in the Orien Express amenity and pull out enough Daily Dice XP to get me to L2 or L3 (depending on how much I've accumulated)
Curiosity question... If you're going to use your Daily Dice XP to get you to L3, Why not just start your toon at L4 from the get go, then run the Korthos quests for favor (faster) afterwards? I personally get the Korthos favor as I'm leveling, but if you're going to bump yourself up anyway, why pay for it with DD?

Connection icon is a green/yellow/red icon that shows the state of your connection with the server (ping, lost packet %age, download and upload instantaneous volume: i.e. at this moment) when you hover over it.

That's why I mention the ui layout save/load from time to time. It's easy to overlook. And redoing it every TR gets to be a chore.

Veteran status (L4/L7/L10) is only available on a first life. When you TR, you start at L1: no exceptions (well, besides Iconics: but they're an entirely different beast). Thus I save the Daily XP every life and use it (or some of it) after TR.

I never noticed, nor moved that before, at least I don't think, but It's been a while. I always move the dice roll every new start... Actually I have quite the extensive UI setup. I pretty well move everything, along with 9 action bars, which is quite the chore. So I'm very excited to learn that you can save that!

Oh! gotcha.

There's a setting in Options that turns on or off the display of the connection icon, iirc.

Yeah, and it starts disabled by default.
Not how I would have made it, but so it goes.

Oh, and if you're willing to spend $$ on the game, buy the Starter Pack that includes the L3 Gold Seal Cleric hireling for about $10. She can be a literal lifesaver at low levels, and even at higher levels, her Divine Vitality can boost your SP from time to time in a pinch.
Highly second this advice, Eli is great. I still pull her out and use her in mid and high level quests (and especially the larger adventure zones) just for the sp restoration and an extra set of hands for levers/feet for standing on triggers. Even when playing a toon without a blue bar, there's often a party member who can use a boost.

If you're in a guild, take advantage of the guild vendors. Buy CSW pots and whatever wands and scrolls will make your life easier (assuming you have plat). If you aren't in a guild, why not? Join a guild... I'll wait. Also, the 'legacy' buffs in the Hold will save your butt when you're low level (particularly the elemental resists.. they're the only ones I bother to maintain).

Deliberately farm some useful items. The Sharn Syndicate end reward includes a selection of ML2 weapons that are pretty decent, for example. And Delera's for the XP trinket, of course. Overall, go to ddowiki, select Items and sort each item by ML to see what you might usefully farm.
On this note, Sharn Syndicate and some of the other older quest chains still sometimes/mostly drop old-style items in the end rewards, which range from absolute trash to clickies and such that are absolutely amazing. You can also sometimes find them in some vendors, especially the one on a guild airship you can easily reset the instance for. Definitely worth farming those if you get a chance, for stuff like Shield and Jump clickies.

I don't go anywhere, even on high levels, without Shield, Invis, & Protection from Evil clickies. They're not as readily available in random lootgen anymore (haven't seen a Shield clicky in a ♥♥♥♥'s age), but there are some reasonably low level named ones available if all else fails. Jump is situationally useful or very handy if you're ranging and standing still: jump up and down and longer-range projectiles and ray spells will mostly miss.

If you melee, find an anti-ooze/rust monster weapon early. They cause damage to normal weapons. Muckbane from Durk's is glass (as are a few others). Everbright works (can be crafted). Worst case, grab a couple of wooden clubs and just throw them away when they break.

And, of course, other effects to consider implementing at a bare minimum by L10:
Fortification (100% by L10 is probably decent. Some things bypass fort, so don't stop there. ;) )
Deathblock
Death Ward (pot from Mysterious Remnants or clicky from Splinterskull chain end reward)
Freedom of Movement (pot from Mysterious Remnants or a few named items, usually boots)

Desireables:
Heroism or Greater Heroism
Blur, Displacement or other concealment
Ghostly or other incorporeality (Note: You'll also want Ghostly, Ethereal, etc if you play Reaper difficulty: reapers are incorporeal and the 50% miss chance for melee/ranged will get you dead.)
Spell absorption: Keeps beholders from negating your Death Ward and then instakilling you, among other uses.

[. . .] if I can see what I bought or if I have to go off memory.
I just remembered the old trick. All you have to do is open the in-game store, go to the adventure packs section, and look at which GUEST PASSES show up for you to buy.

Guest passes can only be used on friends and only show up as purchasable if you own the pack. There's no guest passes for Expansions, but all the packs you own should show up there.

Pretty sure there aren't guest passes for all packs, though.

It's a shame that there's no convenient way to see all the packs you own. Every method I can think of is annoying, difficult, and/or time consuming.

I stuff confirmation emails in a folder in my email client, though digging through there probably wouldn't be any better. On my F2P account, I maintain a list in a text document.

That's awesome! I won't be playing tonight but will get back to the subject when I try it out.

Yeah, seems we're still back in the original NES day, where you took notes on everything. Lol
No offense...but if you need a premium p2p hireling at low lvl>there is something wrong/ or you are 1st lifer with no currency or saved items.

The only thing you really need to complete elite ,at low lvl, is ship buffs.(and a decent weapon)
Ask a fellow adventurer or join a topped out guild...the dam resist from the buffs is usually enough to compensate...until lvl 8 ish

If New>>> farm the collectibles , and sell them ... they can make you kinda rich in energy credits faster than anything at the beginning phase. of a character.

Yes, but.. did you even read the title of the OP? What part of 'New [...] player tips' didn't cover the idea that some of these were ideas to help someone who is a '1st lifer with no currency or saved items'?

Besides, I know lots of people with multiple past lives who love having the L3 Gold Seal hire. A quick SP top-up can be a life-saver even at high levels.

Followup re. oozes: no matter what your usual weapon set (TWF, THF, S&B, caster sticks), remember that oozes are very easy to hit. So feel free to whale away with a pair of clubs even without TWF or with a greatclub or maul even without THF (or proficiency) in order to maximize damage. TWF without the feat adds 20% to your number of hits, iirc, whereas THF weapons have higher base damage (and double the effect of Power Attack). If your to-hit is iffy, THF will only give you the proficiency penalty, whereas TWF will add the main/offhand penalties to that (though.. is there any class not proficient with clubs?).
