Problems with microphone -solved
I have a wireless Plantronics Audio 995H, and it works on all my other programs but not DDO. It works on my laptop with DDO installed from website. It is no longer works after moving to my Desktop and downloading DDO with steam. I would like to know if there is any answer to this problem.

Technical Details: DDO picks up that a microphone does exist and the headset gets sound from DDO within DDO's settings, but DDO is not getting sound from the microphone that it detects existing. I am wondering if steam is somehow blocking the connection.

2 questions. first off are you using the 64 bit client? or are you plugging it in after starting the game?

As Tae suggests, DDO seems to enumerate the audio hardware when it launches and doesn't accept updates. Make sure it's plugged in before you launch the game

Then check the Audio section of the Options menu and make sure it's the selected input device. Note there may be more than one option for the same device and one could work and the other not.
Then test the mic using the option in the Audio settings and adjust gain and such.

Those are the things that spring immediately to mind.

I doubt it’s anything to do with Steam but you can find out real easy by simply running ddo’s .exe from the folder while Steam is closed.

Unfortunately with audio it either works or it doesn’t so you have to just keep checking things until you find the culprit. But it may very well be something little like suggested in the posts above.

Assuming you have windows...Make sure to check the windows audio mixer after starting DDO and make sure it’s not muted. Windows also has a built in audio troubleshooter you can search online how to run it for your version of Windows.
