gosh that was quick , whilst waiting for an answer i googled it and lots of players saying game wont start and some saying they put up task manager ready to use it because they cant exit the game ... have you had any problems with it. .......... windows 10 seems very unpredictable i see post of players saying certain games run and other say no.

I have exactly one problem playing on Win10. Can't Alt-Tab to the desktop. If any other application is running, I can switch to it, no problem. Can even use the calculator button on my keyboard to pop up the calculator and thus switch away from DDO. But a straight Alt-Tab to the desktop doesn't work for me on two separate computers.

Note: I don't play through Steam. It's possible the existence of the Steam Overlay might change this behavior.

if i have a problem during a game i always use alt and f4 together , that sometimes works when ctrl alt del does'nt

However, DDO does require that both .Net Framework 1.1 and Microsoft C++ Redistributable 2005 be installed. On Windows versions newer than XP, they may not be installed by default, and the installation program may not install them either (at least, it didn't used to). Both will coexist happily with other versions of same, so you don't have to choose to forego a newer version that something else requires. I expect that a lot of people who couldn't get it to run may not have had these installed.

Alt-F4 closes the current application. If all you want to do is check FB for a minute (because there are no groups posted at your level, for example), that's overkill.

Note that Ctrl-Esc (Task manager) and Ctrl-Alt-Del do work. I have no idea why Alt-Tab is problematic.

Yes the steam version and the standalone version works fine with Windows 10, once you are able to work out the Installation bugs. Many new people have problems installing this game and LOTRO from the same devs.
My problem with this is that i can't use directx 10 or 11, with a RX 580 8GB with directx12 installed.

You should be able to load the lower directx on Win 10 builds, for backwards compatibility.
- Look in the DDO directory for the 3rdParty folder and run the dx9.exe you find there while the game launcher Not running and under Admin rights account.

- Here is link to Microsoft DirectX download page. >

Shouldn't be required, should it? I believe the later versions of Dx are backward compatible. I think Baapo is suggesting DDO won't run with the higher Dx settings, not that it won't run at all.

Not sure why some cards are glitchy on the Dx10/Dx11 settings. Nor exactly what the difference buys you. Mostly I'm just glad that they've made a setting that allows playing the game on cards that would otherwise fail.

It only does this on DDO, other games like dota 2 and overwatch i can run in dx 10 or 11

Windows 10 is hands down the worst OS I have ever had the displeasure to use, and I have used all Windows OS at one time or another. But yes, the game runs on it. I've had it lock up so bad I had to hard boot the computer, but that turned out to be a Win10 issue. Any time a full screen game crashes on Win10, I have to hard boot. Death to Bill Gates and his robot army!

Windows 8 was the worst. Hands down. Windows 8 had terrible UI, had separate programs for every setting under the sun, and you had to go through hell and back to try and find any setting you were looking for.
