Stops being that way once you get Vet7. Roll a new 7, farm to 100 favour, delete and start again. With the right build, it takes no time at all. I used to do it until I eventually forked out way more money than I should have and bought everything I didn't own.
If you can, I'd suggest getting VIP. It'll make farming the favour so much easier, give you 1000 points a month free as a bonus, 10% extra exp and you can get vet 7 straight away.
I've never understood why people suggest it. I guess if you want to repetitively grind quests for minimal benefit, that's your perogative. You're spending quite a bit of time to get not a lot out of it, in terms of DDO points and in terms of character progression. Even worse if you can't open on Elite.
Getting to 100 favor for the first time on a server is worth using different servers every time you want to start a new character. Maybe worth going out of your way to get, if there's something important you need the points for. But grinding out 100 favor for 25 points each time... You'd have to do it 62 times to get the 1550 points you can get for $20. If the time it takes to get to 100 favor is worth $0.33 (or less) to you, go right ahead.
I'd much rather (and much rather suggest) leveling up a character and getting the points through playing naturally. Chances are you'll have more fun that way.
It's even more sick if you picked up an Iconic race (e.g. bought shadowfell expac). A Bladeforged pally with their self-heal...and um... whatever-the-hell-you-want for the other 14 levels? You can pretty much zerg everything at a run. If you did your VIP suggestion and so can go in on elite from the start....
Of course, as zirune points out... you'll do better taking a walk outside and finding dropped coins. Personally, only ever bothered when I was just <100 points short of what I had wanted to purchase.
see i can't do it that way. i would get so bored so quickly just doing it that route. I know some might be able to handle it but i just enjoy the game so i prefer earning it the normal way.
First, as mentioned, you get no character development, so you're rerunning the same couple dozen quests over and over for no benefit except the DDO points. If someone offered that as a job, they'd immediately be lynched (metaphorically) as a sweatshop owner.
Second, those who use such methods seem to fail to consider the time invested in the actual creation of the toon itself, which becomes non-trivial with Vet7 and an investment in itself for Iconic.
Third, if you ran a single toon to 20 and farmed the Tokens of the Twelve to Reincarnate a couple of times, thereafter you'd be able to open all quests on elite on that toon, which makes favor farmng much easier and faster. And, lo and behold, you also have a toon with two past lives!
In answer to the OP question, "Is it possible to unlock everything? (f2p)", the answer is, No. But it's very very close to being Yes. You can't buy the 10% XP bonus VIPs get, nor the automatic ability to open elite on all your toons, including new-made ones. And VIPs get access to in-game support that F2P don't get and Premium only get for a defined period of time after buying points. Could be there's a few other perks that can't be unlocked. Still, it's pretty trivial.
The question not asked, How long will it take to unlock everything as a F2P?.. A very long time.
Something wrong with me ...
I've made a new account for a runner, grinded it till 350 points(barbarians for quick 5 favor reward), bought morninglord (323 atm) .... aaaaand now i'm having fun farming points on my main account via dualboxing. (sorc-barb iconic hero is quite amusing)
Yeah, as a general rule, we tend to recommend using your points to buy adventure packs first, for a while, particularly in the mid-to-upper level Heroic range. That advice isn't as stringent as it once was, because they keep adding new F2P quests, making leveling a bit easier through that level range, but it's still worth keeping in mind. Besides, having more quests to play improves play experience much more than having an additional race or class (at least that's my opinion).
It may give you a few useful pointers.
I think i'll play the game like this:
- play it normally on 1 account with 1 main character, enjoying questing and stuff.
- when i see something useful on sale in shop, i'll farm some points using runner account.
Oh, and i will probably buy a starter pack from steam. Kinda want to upgrade my acc to premium.
Won't buy VIP though, not justifiable for me. I can live without minor speed and exp bonuses and also its not that frustrating to do one quest multiple times (for elite)
