Lets say... Dr. Wattz is just a city man with a decent pile of cash to fall back on. He misses his sister (Or loves some one he can never get, what ever works), and has always looked up to Dream Co. (Lets call them that, because why not?). But, he is dying of something (The pills), and just before he dies he pays Dream Co. to change his memorys so he rembers working for them all his life, he gets to work with his sister, but he tells them to leave his problem (The what ever he has) in, because he wants to rember that he wasnt perfect.
Wattz does have something going on though. In Act II, you see him run out, but he gives Lily and Dr. Rosalene different excuses as to why. Presumably to get the pills.
If I had to guess though, there might come a time when Dr. Wattz memories might have to be explored (just not at this moment). The kicker? Those pills he took aren't just pain killers. They're Beta Blockers (Same thing John took), except Wattz actually does have a heart condition. (They mention that John took them, but never had the heart condition they are designed for). Same side effects though, so good luck getting through those memories.
That's what the red screen is, the heart failing. It happens when the heart monitor flickers, and it happens when the screen flickers at the end. That it's the whole screen flickering is just foreshadowing, to make sure you don't miss the fact that something is wrong.
As for the exploration of Wattz memories (if he is dying), I'm just trying to imagine poor Eva stuck with Alistair for that job. He's worse than roadkill, ya know.
In the end, His twin bother dies, he never makes it to the moon and neil has a heart disease.. sorry for the spoiler ^^and you may be right, the bonuse side effect is that these memory (IE this episode) dosen't excist. In fact Im betting ever episode leading up to the final one were watt dies dosn't excists .
