"Zero Saints Thirty" Mission Outfit
At the beginning of the game everyone is wearing that Spec Ops outfit. The Boss, Pierce, and Shaundi. Shaundi's outfit obviously shows her gender (female, duh). Now, the boss's outfit is male. To me, this is a slap in the face because Saints Row is about creating your own character and doing things your way, and by doing this, it implies and assumes that your character will be male. At least in SR3, the beginning outfit was gender indeterminate. This isn't a game breaker, just a flaw, oversight, or lack of care by the game's dev's. Please fix this by allowing us to atleast pick our gender before the first mission (and make the outfit gender determinate) and then change the characters appearance (and or gender) afterwards. Or, just make Shaundi's outfit gender indeterminate. As I said, not a game breaker, just a bit of a diservice.

NOTE: This is my opinion. No raging please.

OMG WHAT IF MY FEMALE PROTAG DOESN'T HAVE SHAPELY FEMALE FEATURES AND A SO CALLED MALE SHAPE FITS HER PERFECTLY!? OR A PRE-OP TRANSEXUAL!? I'm telling Kotaku about this, prepare to have your privilege checked.

You can fit a female in a large male suit, but you can't do the reverse. So in theory, you character could be under all the armour/padding. If you were obese though, you're screwed. Sorry.

Guess I should join in on this whinge party. I'm in Europe so I haven't played yet but my character in the previous titles has been a huge, disgusting quivering landmass of lard. If the game gives the boss an average body I might make my own thread about how useless the developers are.

It's in the prologue only... Same way you wore a Gat suit in SR3...

I completely agree with OP on this one, it was kind of an immersion breaker since I play female only. But I can bet everyone beating up on OP would be whining if the MC had defaulted to female body type. Misogynist hypocrites.

I honestly couldn't give less of a crap what The Boss looks like in the opening mission. The model was, as in SR3, designed to be gender-neutral, and I'd say it did its job perfectly. You, however, are very quick to throw the word, "misogynist" out, and seem to think you know how others think. That makes you the prejudiced one here, with how you refer to us as "beating up" on OP, saying that we would be "whining" if the MC were clearly female in the opening mission. A few people might, but I wouldn't really care, because the mission takes all of five minutes, less if you just run through it without listening to the dialogue. You need to drop this attitude that men are out to get you, and hate women, and you need to do that right now.

All I'm saying is that this is an inconsistancy in the game, and am asking volition to make something in their game a bit more solid. You don't have too be afraid of a polished and sound game. Jeez...

Nobody's "afraid" of the game being polished and sound, because IT ALREADY IS. YOU are the one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about an insignificant matter, and YOU are the one starting something over nothing, when you could have just been a normal person and kept your damn mouth shut about something so trivial. Instead, you had to make a thread on the matter, knowing that the discussion boards are very quick to dogpile on people that whine. How about in the future, instead of trying to stand up against what you perceive as injustice, you take a step back and make sure that it's actually something that matters, and not something stupid, like a character model being gender-neutral for the first five minutes of the game, before you get to customize your character, and have them look exactly like you want for the entirety of the game from that point? Follow that advice, and you won't have so many people telling you how stupid you're acting.

Also, canonically, The Boss is a man. Saints Row 1 had you play as a male. 2, 3, and now 4 give you the option, but even the box-art for Saints Row IV has a male Boss on the cover. You should consider yourself lucky that you can even play as a female.

I'm with you, my Saints protag since the 1st game was a fat guy, even in 3rd wearing that costume you could hide all the slob my character has, but suddenly this game has a slender character saving the world for the first minutes???

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.

CHECK YOU THIN PRIVILEGE VOLITION.

Damn you beat me to it... Yeah I'm mad as hell & this outrage need to be fixed where is my horizontally challenged character? It sickens me that the fluffy people are tread upon so grievously. Why am I stuck playing a anorexic/bulimic, gender neutral ♥♥♥♥ bag? this travesty need to be address NOW. Seriously though Freyr94 you're a idiot if you actually believe the first outfit is an issue that needs to be fixed.

Hey, look at all the trolls. Why is it that gamers are entirely trash and can't even have an intelligent discussion without being rude? My god, you guys are pathetic...

I mean, I get what you're saying and I respect your opinion, but I'd just say that if you're letting that initial segment of the game color your opinion of the game as a whole I think you're doing yourself a disservice. Sure, the beginning outfit is male (I'd argue gender neutral, but whatever), but it's also of a more athletic build than you might potentially make a character in the game. My customized character is basically mid-way on the right arm of the triangle, a build certainly not indicated by the armor in the beginning.

Believe me, this little issue I'm having is in no way affecting my outlook on the game in its entirety, I love this game, I just wish the dev's had taken a bit more time smoothing things out. I've found multiple issues with graphics, character creation, clipping issues with clothes, camera problems, the list goes on. I'm sure most of these things will be fixed in up coming patches as every game does this. Not to say that the outfit is a glitch, but an inconsistancy I saw and didn't like, so I thought I would mention it and see if others felt the same way. Fyi, most don't.

Thankyou for the non-nasty comment. :)
