What are the optimal settings for Saints Row IV
I've played the game on both my laptops and put them to their "best" settings but game is still slow. I'm not sure if that's just the first level (which I doubt) but it's really starting to bug me. What's the best setting to use on this game?

The best setting is probably to have the Vsync on.

By slow do you mean a low framerate? If so then, since you're on a laptop, even with a decent GPU in them, odds are you need to turn the settings down to at least Medium.

Turning the settings to medium and turning on the VSync has definitely helped but it's still a bit slow. Is there a good frame rate to have it at?

most people shoot for an average FPS of 60.

What resolution should I use?

Most people use whatever is native to their monitor. My laptop uses 1366x768, but you can get an FPS boost by using a lower resolution. Just make sure it matches the aspect ratio of your screen oterwise the image can look streatched or compressed.

You might want to post your processor and GPU here from the laptop specs? I had a slo-mo game of SR3 until I upgraded my CPU. SR4 runs better than 3, but it's still prone to slow motion if your specs aren't up to snuff.
Try this config out as a base (works for SRIII, too, though SRIV is much better optimized):

-Run in a 1280x720 window
-MSAA off
-Anistropic no higher than 8x; the difference from 16x is negligible and should net a couple of frames.
-Scene detail at medium. High is taxing and low results in too much pop-in.
-Lighting at low as there's no perceivable difference in picture quality but the performance tradeoff is massive.
-Shadows at medium for the same reasons as scene detail.
-Post-processing on low. High turns on godrays but they look awkward without the bokeh DoF that's triggered from having both this setting and lighting detail on high.
-Reflections on low. Only adjusts rendering difference and is barely even noticeable.
-Ambient occlusion on low. Anything past that looks awful, anyway.

V-Sync will only hurt if you're running under 60FPS, as it will cause mouse input lag and potentially even lower your framerate.

If you're on a laptop, you should look into playing with it plugged-in, on the High Performance power plan and further optimising it. Some laptop graphics cards (maybe even integrated ones) have an option in the advanced power options[www.7tutorials.com]. Set that to "Maximize Performance".

If you're using Intel HD Graphics, it might have a control panel where you control the power consumption <-> performance balance. Look for one either in Control Panel or in your standard Programs menu.
