Probably the same reason why most older game controllers don't work well with Windows games these days. They lack proper Xinput support. And only Bill knows why Microsoft chose to flip the axes on the Xbox 360 controller, compared to every other joystick or joypad back then...

You should get yourself a tool that can remap axes and buttons. You might also have some luck with the Windows joystick calibration. In Windows 7, go to Devices And Printers, right click on your joypad, select Game controller settings, Properties, Settings, Calibrate...

well I went to the windows settings for the cntroller and it sees the axis controller properly. i.e when i press up it goes up etc, it seems to be just saints row having the issue of reversing the axis on me.

If the joystick calibration doesn't help, then it's almost certainly the "Classic Joypad" vs. "Xinput" problem. Try a tool like x360ce (http://code.google.com/p/x360ce/) to emulate the Xinput interface SR3/4 is expecting and you should be good to go.

I'm also quite sure there's a configuration file somewhere that lets you remap axes or flip them. I believe I also read somewhere that you can even invert axes from inside the game? In that case, you won't need any external software at all.

no you can only invert aiming from what i see

what windows driver are you using? You need more than just the default drivers windows installs when you plug it in. for the PS3 controller I use Motioninjoy driver and set it to emulate a xbox360 controller and it works correctly.

there is a driver called ScpDriver.exe that is supposed to make a PS4 controller emulate a xbox360 controller but I have not tried it.

hmmm i'll have to try it out

I use Motion Joy and the PS3 controler does not work.

You don't actually need a driver to get the PS4 pad to work. Contrary to the PS3 pad, it doesn't need a specific initialisation procedure and will work as a generic USB or Bluetooth gamepad out of the box. However, as with most controllers that don't follow the Xinput button and axis mapping, it requires some application support or a filter that provides the correct mapping.

SR4 needs a few tweaks to make it work with x360ce. After configuring your x360.ini with x360ce.exe, get the current xinput1_3.dll version from the x360ce project site[code.google.com], which is x360ce_lib32_r848_VS2010.zip at the time of this writing.

Copy xinput1_3.dll and x360ce.gdb¨from the .zip into the SR4 game directory (<SteamApps>/common/Saints Row IV/). Then, edit x360ce.ini with notepad and replace the section [InputHook] with the following:
[InputHook] HookLL=0 HookCOM=1 HookSA=0 HookWT=0 HookDI=0 HookPIDVID=0 HookName=0

This should make x360ce work with SR4 and provide axis and button mappings as desired.

Thanks to http://ngemu.com/threads/issues-with-program.158023/ where I found out about these options.

If you are using the DS4Windows tool:
1) create a new profile. Change the mapping of the left stick so that it is inverted. Save the profile. Use it for games with this issue.
2) Go to "Settings" tab and select "Hide DS4 Controller"

I have the same issue... I could just buy an XBox controller and that would solve it too right?
Ghost of Alpha Aug 3, 2016 @ 2:02pm
onitake, I tried and it did work even with bluetooth, copied the files to all my saint row games expect 2. No problems I wish I could make the X sensitivity higher but no luck. I'm just happy it worked even with bluetooth, I prefer my ps4 controller over the 360 and the one. Thanks again

Just use this http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-DS4-To-XInput-Wrapper
This software works fine and is the only one which does not have any viruses on it. You have to install the ScpDriver.exe and then start the ScpServer.exe. Sometimes I have to unplug the controller or deactivate the controller with the software.

Sure, you claiming so makes it "the only one that does not have any viruses on it".

Care to explain what makes you think x360ce, DS4Windows are any worse than DS4Tool?

For what it's worth, DS4Tool is not maintained any more, which makes it a worse choice in my book.

Ok you are right but for me it's ok, because my modded games are worese e.g. Payday2 and I use the steam controller. I play mainly with m+keyboard
