Am I allowed to make a lets play of SR3 and 4?
And toss em up on YouTube? Not sure how Volition feels about this

You can do videos, the only thing you have to watch out for that I know of is if you have the in-game radio on because most of the songs will get the video flagged (but that flag doesn't affect your account).

Actually the flag WILL impact your account, especially if your an independant streamer not affiliated with any of the bigger groups like Polaris.

If you're going to do a LP of either SR 3 or 4 your best muting the radio all together so as not to get flagged at all
lame, pointless doing a LP of these games then.

Maybe it depends on if you're monetizing videos? I have a lot of flagged videos because I usually don't mute in-game music and my account is in good standing, no strikes at all, but I don't do 'let's play' type videos nor do I try to monetize anything.

You will need to Email Deep Silver and ask for permission.

You don't need to email Volition or Deep Silver for permission at all. We love seeing our fans doing Saints Row videos, whether they monetize them or not.

You may want to be careful about the music though, as the rights holders may have a problem with certain songs. Deep Silver Volition would never go after our fans for something like this though.

That is very nice of you, but maybe you should put that into a good visible disclaimer on the Deep Silver site, so people can refer to it in case they run into problems with youtube's content ID claim system.

It wont get flagged by content ID though, so long as you turn the music off.

Since the music is licensed that's where you'll get flagged, and as IdolNinja said, they have no control over that.

In short, stream as much as you like, but turn the radio off.

Just to clarify that though, we're not talking about the ingame music here, we're talking about the music you can listen to from the car radio's and stuff
yeah without being able to play the radio music it just seems pointless to LP this as the music is such an integral part of the gameplay.

stupid copyright police

Depends really, i personally don't have a problem with people getting copyright strikes for monetising streams with licensed music. Music isn't free, the Dev's had to pay a fee to get the music in game and the same should apply to you if you're gonna monetise your play through.

No idea about S3 as i've not bothered with it, But in SR3 i wouldn't call the readio music 'integral'. I've watched several playthoughs on YT of it without the radio and they've been awesome, because the guys playing have had the personality to cover any loss of atmosphere the lack of radio may have

IdolNinja you and your company are the type that make this world a great place.

Sucks about the music part though. Everything that was put into the game belongs together, you guys really really nailed it.

Content holders are a bunch of a-holes, they don't realize that even if someone else is profiting, they get free marketing out of it.

I bought Saint's Row because of the Humble sale and a few Youtube videos, now I'm a Volition/Deep Silver fan going forward. Keep up the great work guys!

We did release an official statement about it earlier this year, but I'll see about also getting something up on our website that can be referred to.

If yer gonna make a lets play, u should turn the music volume down... or your video may get flagged :maaad:

One of my SR3 videos got muted because of the Kanye West song. Thankfully (?!) Youtube has an editing tool designed to 'take out' the music. It's not perfect, but it works. So that's something to keep in mind.

This is one of the problems with games that used licensed music, you cant play said music while doing a stream/LP without it biting you on the ass
