Epic Online Services: What the hell?

I just installed this yesterday and find it also installs Epic Online Services? Why is the steam version doing this?

If i dont mistake it was Epic exclusive and made so you can also have your friends from Epic
I see nothing wrong in this and you can just dont use it its just the services not the launcher....
What the hell is up with the hate on Epic ?!?!?!?!

Idk, but I see it everywhere on Steam. It's weird.

Not that Epic is above criticism--they delisted the Unreal games from digital storefronts a few years back and have since refused to remaster or at least re-release them digitally for some reason even though companies like Nightdive have offered to do the remastering work for them. So the only way to obtain them legally nowadays is to buy old, used CDs from places like ebay.

I mean yeah everyone does that in a way...its a shame but what can we do ?
Other than get a physical copy ...thats the best thing proper but then we have to make sure we keep a copy of each CD/DVD in a clean state its a bit of pain...

go to steam properties, select betas and select legacy, it will install the legacy version of the game before epic stuff

Well the Epic stuff hasn't gotten in the way of the game, I was just wondering why that is there now?

Nothing works in this game, i get Epic Online Services, when i download it at steam, and the game will not launch at all, even when it say it! waste of money and time! now how do i get my money back? I hate this company who made this game!

you do know that you only "OWN" the game when you buy the actual Cd.. read the licence agreement with steam.. you are just renting it here......

DO NOT INSTALL THE EPIC ONLINE SERVICES. My Anti-Virus flagged it as a Crypto-Virus. I do not know if it is a false flag but I'm not taking that risk. For the time being, DO NOT INSTALL JUST IN CASE.

I bought saints row 4 in 2013... epic did not even have a steam equivalent until 2017 at the earliest. this was not an exclusive to them.

The reason it's there is because of the cross-play service. From what I've read, Epic made allowing EOS a requirement for that.

im sorry are you ****. Epic wasnt even a thing when this game released. Bought box version of the game (you know, one that you have to insert DVD to install it) and played it on steam with friend. We want to replay it and i did not fck buy it to now connect it to fck Epic Games

That is a false flag. Also, it's a good idea to specify what antivirus you're using exactly, since most are more or less garbage or ad/spyware in and of themselves compared to something you could use for free - like Windows Defender or TotalVirus online or Malwarebytes (for malware), etc.
