this is what there replacing it with removing the old version from our accounts
https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/saints-row-iv-re-elected

the announcement

All other versions and separate DLC will be removed from sale as of December 8th and will no longer be useable. All of your saves and achievements will be moved over so you can still play as you always have. Mods should not be affected.

if anyone owns a gog version i would recommend backing up the installer and patch
as the new version may not run on some computers due to higher specs
and possibly new problems

if you would like to keep your original on steam
there are a few methods if enough act quickly
contacting them directly being the best, secondary if they have a forum starting a post there
as this is unfair to everyone, not everyone will enjoy or be able to run the new version

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2899380550
and another thing
https://steamcommunity.com/app/206420/discussions/0/3721691844094199738/
replacing the files might also work since the depot for the old files those could be removed without notice, this method will also safeguard them from being updated

So stupid, they should leave up the old version as-is and then make the new version a separate launcher, so many other companies have done it the right way that this is just absurd.

that is what they should be doing, they may be trying to save the cost if paying for a new APP id costs money?

It's $100 to get a new app Id, the cost is nothing for any company and only exists to stop the spam that would result if it were completely free.

so they are picking not to get an new app ID and reuse the same one possibly to save some money?
otherwise i don't see any reason for it, since 3rd both versions were left to us
another idea, they may be doing it this way so they don't have to setup everything again
which wouldn't be that tough and would allow us to keep our originals....

You think they are that worried over $100 ?

There is no valid reason for it, some idiot in a boardroom decided on a whim and no one with a brain spoke up to point out how easy it would be to just deprecate the old one and put the new one up as a separate launcher.

lol the money was only a light idea, since they have tons of money laying around
but some are penny pinchers.

possible sadly possible, why they didnt look at the past and learn oh hey we can just add it as another game, i would say laziness might be playing another part
since store page setup, but who knows whats going through there minds sadly

Volition is owned by Embracer Group, which might just be the biggest Gaming Investor in the World apart from Tencent. Theyre definetly not pressed about 100 bucks for the AppID, even with the justified Failure that SR22 was.

Removal of licensed content that has been paid for is illegal under EU 76, 77 DIRECTIVE (EU) 2019/770
https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/en/ALL/?uri=CELEX:32019L0770

(76)
Consumers should be informed of modifications in a clear and comprehensible manner. Where a modification negatively impacts, in more than a minor manner, the access to or use of digital content or a digital service by the consumer, the consumer should be informed in a way that allows the information to be stored on a durable medium. A durable medium should enable the consumer to store the information for as long as is necessary to protect the interests of the consumer arising from the consumer's relationship with the trader. Such media should include, in particular, paper, DVDs, CDs, USB sticks, memory cards or hard disks as well as emails.

(77)
Where a modification negatively impacts, in more than a minor manner, the access or use of the digital content or digital service by the consumer, the consumer should enjoy as a result of such a modification the right to terminate the contract free of any charge. Alternatively, the trader can decide to enable the consumer to maintain access to the digital content or digital service at no additional cost, without the modification and in conformity, in which case the consumer should not be entitled to terminate the contract. However, if the digital content or digital service that the trader enabled the consumer to maintain is no longer in conformity with the subjective and the objective requirements for conformity, the consumer should be able to rely on the remedies for a lack of conformity as provided for under this Directive. Where the requirements for such a modification as laid down in this Directive are not satisfied and the modification results in a lack of conformity, the consumer's right to bring the digital content or digital service into conformity, have the price reduced or the contract terminated, as provided for under this Directive, should remain unaffected. Similarly, where, subsequent to a modification, a lack of conformity of the digital content or digital service that has not been caused by the modification arises, the consumer should continue to be entitled to rely on remedies as provided for under this Directive for the lack of conformity in relation to this digital content or digital service.

76 can not be honored by the seller because the game contains DRM and requires Steam authentication which would update the game to the modified content Thus leaving 77 which is either a refund or allowing the content in unmodified state to be used.

Or they can create two separate versions or instruct people to downgrade the game if they have versioning control maintained.

It gets even more interesting if the new version contains a launcher or updated privacy policy because than there is also a potential GDPR violation.

I really hope legal has not been sleeping on this one for Volition because if they did they might be in a world of hurt once enough EU consumers start complaining.

Put enough attention on something and bad press and a company most times will try to mitigate any outfall by backing down.

Now if one person complains or 10 nothing will of course happen its not interesting enough. But when a few thousand people start petition consumer right groups it will most certainly get attention. Not because they actually care about the subject of complaint I have no illusion they do but because to them it is a easy opportunity to get some good press. Even if they only announce a preliminary investigation that would in turn result in media picking it up as a cheap scope. Which in turn makes marketing very worried of any outfall.

Fallout76 is a prime example of how bad it can get and once it gets bad enough the legislators will step in. Will that happen in this case? Probably not but if you can get them worried enough there is a risk to it you already won.

But lets see how it plays out because the announcement did not actually state removing existing installations only removing sales possibility. Yes they mentioned upgrading but that is a broad term. But if it is indeed removed well...

Me personally I really don't care either way. Played the game got my share of fun out of it not planning to return. But someone else might so here is the exact law to reference in complaints *if your from the EU*

The specs are exactly the same what are you talking about? It's just giving you all of the DLC in one pack that's it. We're not losing anything.

If the requirements increase I don't think I'll be able to play saints row 4 anymore now I'm barely pulling 30fps

-going based on the announcement-
also no there is one missing dlc that people have pointed out

specs in writing can look the same, but they could differ
bugs fixed in previous version might be in the new version
new bugs may be in the new version already read of coop disconnects

we are losing the older version, there replacing it with the new version :sadkitty:
plus there is also compatibility, they say mods wont break, that's not usually the deal when something changes, so what else could they be wrong on? other compatibility problems?

sorry but the wording leads one to thinking, original to be delisted
and new version to replace it, seeing too many games do this kinda thing lately

the safest bet is always to make a second ID and allow people to keep both incase the
secondary game does not work for some, sorry but ive learned to distrust when companies do stuff at times :cwat: as ive been on the forums a long time.

aye that would be sad, my old pc many games were putting up with 15-30fps
was a win 7 gifted via a friend, reminds me if this runs on a higher direct x? the next version.
then it wont be compatible with older versions of windows
