I tried a few different versions but had no luck. Is there a specific one I should try?
Hey that seems to have done it. I was able to get into the game and run around. I don't have time to fully test it, but it seems stable for now. Thanks for the tip. Much appreciated.
I don't have a Deck, so maybe I'm missing something, but I'm a little mystified at seeing threads like this recently (for Proton discussions around games that have ports already). I mean, if it works for you, that's good .. just curious
When you install a game on Deck by default it runs on whatever the latest Proton is. For this game it crashes after the initial logos. In my troubleshooting I tried a few other random versions of Proton and all three Steam Linux Runtime options available (Sniper, Soldier, and regular), and none of them worked. They all crash after the logos. The only thing that worked was telling it to run Proton 6.3-8.
Even if there's a solid native port? Even Valve games?
I don't think I've heard of Sniper or Soldier, or had to pick between them. Does 'regular' mean 'standard SLR' or 'no SLR'?
I don't know how it was made/tested, but IIRC, the Linux port of this game was reported to run fine on all major distros and hardware (Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Arch .. Nvidia, ATI, Intel GPU, even, if it's not too ancient.) Is SteamOS or DeckOS or whatever that bad? Do people dual-boot, or switch outright (to Mint or Fedora, eg) - and if so, is the hardware all recognized? (Saw somewhere that the controller is recognized as a Steam Controller, which is finen)
How do the controls work on the title screen menu? I feel stupid having to ask this.
