EDIT:
Ok, I'm not sure if all of these steps are required, but I regained at least basic controller functionality with my copy.
0. Re-verify installation (almost certainly unnecessary, but I did do it before anything else)
1. Turn off InputMapper
2. Re-calibrate your controller directly with Steam in the general controller settings
3. Change your controller configuration to Developer's Recommended
Having said that, making these changes has made it so I can no longer use the d-pad on menus, or skip the boot-up videos with the start button. I imagine that's a limitation of the profile, but this definitely isn't an ideal solution.
Yeah, the Steam Controller implementation is really bad. There are things you can do to tweak it, but even then it's missing some things. Whoever set this up did not think things out.
How did you do that. Mine is still broken...
I have no new programs installed. I have no other types of controllers or programs associated with controllers. The Devs need to fix this. The update screwed us.
What do you mean by this?
You have to activate the Xbox controller assistant in the settings of steam and then change the controller profile of saints row to the developers recommended setting. This works for me but I can't neither reload the weapon with x button nor can I activate rumble
1. Start the game
2. Press the sync button on the Xbox one controller in the main menu till the led is blinking
3. Press the sync button again till it reconnects
One of the new features that's being added to steam is more advanced configuration of controllers. It started with the Steam Controller, then the PS4 Dualshock got added, and now all controllers can be configured this way. Since SR4 added native Steam Controller support, the way it manages controllers is a little different than games that don't, and the way it handled the transition sucked.
In Big Picture mode, go to Settings, then Controller Settings. Look for Xbox Configuration Support and/or Generic Gamepad Configuration Support. It may be you need to enable or disable these to get SR4 to play nicely.
If they are enabled, then go to SR4 in your library and choose to Manage Game. Choose Controller Configuration and then Browse Configs and try setting it to the Official Configuration for Saints Row IV. This will set it to a configuration that's compatible with it's support for native Steam Controller configurations. Community configurations made before native Steam Controller support were added are now broken, as are many other default configurations.
Why the incompatible configurations weren't purged from the system when the upgrade happened, I have no idea, but it's not like the default configuration is well thought out anyway (but it can be changed to be _mostly_ functional).
Yea, Mostly configurable, until you have to perform death from above. Now I'm in the story mode mission where I have to do the tutorial on the move and I can't progress because I haven't found a way to do the move with the default control scheme.
Unfortunately, I don't know why it's suddenly fully functional again. I said I didn't do anything, it was just working when I went to try what you suggested. So I ended up doing nothing other than starting my game.
