Errr ... Tales is #5?
Escape is okay for the most part but it suffers with some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ puzzles and some dodgy writing. The final act is an absolute fallacy of gaming in general. I'd recommend playing through it once, with a guide, to experience the series in full. Be prepared to either have a massive exercise in patience with the final act or forego the frustration and just watch someone else play through it imstead to experience the ending.
Tl;dr Play through them 1-6 but be prepared for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of Escape, no one will think less of you for abandoning it at any point.
It's the lack of point-and-click mouse controls.
It exclusively works via relative directional controls with keyboard cursors (bad) or a controller (slightly less bad).
You basically "drive" Guybrush through the levels like an RC car.
Plenty of transition sections, where suddenly the camera changes, causing you to immediately go back to the previous area.
"If you want" 😂 shade!
I love Escape.
Why does Escape get so much hate, but Grim Fandango doesnt?
Escape is worth experiencing at least once (I actually replayed them all including Escape). Some retcons and ideas are a bit lame, Monkey Kombat is sttill dreadful (it's the worst kind of puzzle: you are given the solution at the start and then it's just boring busywork) but there are some good moments there.
I think this early pseudo-3D works much better with Grim Fandango's artstyle. And the story doesn't fall apart in the last act. And there is no Monkey Kombat. And it was re-released with point and click controls.
They remastered that one and fixed the controls.
This game is a joke, a very bad one.
I also recommend the Special Editions, cause of the voiceover.
