But your claim is ridiculous.
His claim isn't ridiculous. The thing is the first few weeks are crucial, if a game makes a slow start , then it probably won't make a profit no matter how good or polished the title is, once the early hype has died down and more new games come out. So yep if a game isn't profitable , the publishers will either reduce budgets on future titles or go out of business, even an indie game can cost 500K in US dollars so they have to make money from somewhere, they can't exactly turn round and tell investors or shareholders , we're not sure what we'll make, they'll have financial expectations
