These are the remakes of the originals:

oh thats cool, thanks :o i still remember the one screen i was always stuck in when i was a kid lmfao
And the art style (old and new) seems to better than that the new game will feature. :(
The remakes come with a pretty good hints system as well as the redone cartoon style graphics (which, as someone already mentioned, can be switched off if you prefer the old pixel art).
If you're worried about getting stuck but don't like just blindly following walkthroughs, you should enjoy them.
They haven't missed a lot as Ron Gilbert wasn't involved with those, but he is with RTMI, so this is the true sequel.
What does who was involved with a game have to do with whether it's a "true sequel" or not? That's like saying Aliens isn't a true sequel to Alien because it wasn't directed by Ridley Scott. Anyway, other people from the original team worked on all five of them, so there's hardly a lack of continuity.
Gilbert has even said that he considers all the games of the series to be canon. Return also incorporates elements from later games, like Murray.
Terminator 3 would have been a better analogy.
Those other Monkey Island games pale in comparison to the original two.
Curse of Monkey Island is really good!
Although I’ll grant you, the less said about Escape from Monkey Island the better…
