I don't think Boybrush is his real name. Except if you actvate the name option, it's not seen anywhere in the game, no character calls him by his name. I think the name was chosen so it doesn't spoil the twist at the beginning of the game that you are actually not playing Guybrush, but still make you believe it (like a boy version of Guybrush).
So to answer the question, I would say no.
I noticed that when he sees Guybrush sitting on the bench the other kids don't seem to notice him sitting there.
Maybe he's just a representation of Guybrush's lost childhood.
