"New" does not mean "better". I'll take 7 or even Linux over 10 any time I can.

windows 7 is being completely phased out at this point. less and less games will support it and, unfortunately, Return to Monkey Island is among them

The first two games were on the Amiga, so why not this?

If it doesn't run on my Amstrad CPC 464 I'm boycotting Ron Gilbert's face.

Windows 7 is not supported :winter2019sadsnowman: but the Radeon HD 7750 from Feb. 2012 is supported, what a contradiction.
Presumably AMD has provided a driver especially for this game...
An alternative version in the style of parts 1&2 for SCUMM I would have also celebrated, as well as voice output that is not limited to English. German, French, Spanish they could have given us with pleasure.

Yes, it is your good right to take Win7 over any other OS, but you also have to live with the consequences of that descision. Don't forget, just because someone clings to an outdated product, there is no right for those ones that the devs have also to support outdated systems.

while it's strange they support an old graphics card, it's mostly because it functions differently from a whole OS.

they can't support it do to the fact the OS itself doesn't receive updates anymore. they'd need to offer even more support for an aging OS that could eventually have security issues.

with a graphics card, it's completely different because (if i am correct, and i could be wrong here) AMD still updates the drivers for that card. that and it's the bare minimum that you can use power-wise

in the end, it isn't a contradiction and more of a sad bit of reality: Windows 7 is, unfortunately, gone now. barely any games will take the time to make sure their game runs on an aging OS, opting to focus on those that are currently being supported by Microsoft (Win 8, 10 and 11). it sucks because i love Win7, but it had to happen eventually

Luckily many games don't mention it in minimum requirements but still work on Win7 as long as they don't require higher version of DirectX. It's just the devs don't want to deal with potential problems on older OS.

true. i realized there's still plenty of games releasing that can run on Win7 but they could possibly suffer from issues lol

That's right, for some games with missing API DLL files I created symbolic shortcuts or copies of Kernel32.dll and User32.dll. This has already made a few games run.

Not just games, even intel chips, or atleast you not able to get security updates for them. Which forced me to go to windows 10 even 3 years ago (even though i feared it) but with classic shell, and it looks just like windows 7.

Well, I get updates for Windows Defender several times a week, that's quite enough. Windows 10 is also free with Win7, so they could also release their updates for 7. But they're probably afraid that no one will use their new Windows 10, which is supposed to be the last Windows.
It's also not about what it looks like but what it does. Kill criterion for me alone is that I no longer have manual control over updates.

There's Windows 11 already.
