The Yappie Feet Mod! (v1.3)

The purpose of this mod is pretty self-explanatory. It aims to bring back the music track Yappie Feet, which was excluded from the remastered version of the game due to liscensing issues. Modding in the track is achieved here by replacing On The Bowl, so keep in mind that track won't play while this mod is active.

Preface: Backing Up The Original Music

Before we do anything, we need to back up the MUSIC.ARC file the game originally includes. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Jet Set Radio\CUSTOM. (This can be done most easily by right-clicking Jet Set Radio in your library, then Properties. Navigate to the "Local Files" tab and click "Browse Local Files," and lastly open the "CUSTOM" folder.) Copy the MUSIC.ARC file to any other location on your hard drive/SSD/whatever you use. Just as long as the file is backed up somewhere. Keep the CUSTOM folder open, since you'll need it again in a few moments.

Downloading The Mod And Installing

Once it's downloaded, open it in WinRAR or 7-Zip and drag the new MUSIC.ARC into the CUSTOM folder. Windows will warn you that there's already a MUSIC.ARC present. Since you've already backed it up, click "Replace the file in the destination." That's all there is to it!

Bonus: Making Changes To The Jukebox

While the new MUSIC.ARC file is enough, there's another extra detail that can be added for polish purposes. Open "jetsetradio.exe" (in the game's root drectory) in your hex editor of choice. I personally use HxD. Press Ctrl+G and navigate to address "00218478." Your cursor should now be directly behind the text "On The Bowl." Highlight the song's name and type in "Yappie Feet" (without quotation marks, of course.) DON'T press Backspace, just highlight On The Bowl and type in Yappie Feet. Click save and close HxD or whatever you're using.

Congratulations! You've fully modded in Yappie Feet over On The Bowl!

Additional Notes And Possible Bugs

This is an early version of the mod, and as a result there are probably mistakes. I haven't had the opportunity to fully test every possible scenario, so there may be audio gaps. If you notice any strange things, tell me about it.

I'd like to note that one thing i plan on updating in the future is the transition into Professor K's "Jet Set Radio!" line, which causes the song to end abruptly. At the moment, I haven't found a way to streamline this, but I hope to do so at some point.

Additionally, the audio files for Yappie Feet here are slightly extended to match On The Bowl's length. In the interest of avoiding audio gaps, "can't stop 'till you reach the top" repeats a bit more than it originally did in the Dreamcast version or on its source album.

As previously stated, report any bugs or strange occurences to me if you find them. I wouldn't have been able to do this by myself, though: I used quite a few helpful programs to string this together.
