I can't seem to get it to launch. :( Really want to play The Last Stand

I send him him to drop in on a heavy weapon team while Tarkus and Avitus move in to mop them up, he gets put under suppression and melts. I send him to tie up melee units. His jump arrives to late and they're already on top of everyone else and they've already ripped my squad in half. Even if I can get him into combat, he's so squishy compared to the Force Commander that I can barely use him for long before he faints. I also never find jumping into combat to be that useful, and if I did encounter a missi...
