This game is really disappointing after playing RF1
Really disappointing. Anyone else agree?

The only thing I found dissapointing was the lack of destructable areas and multiplayer. Other than that and the fact that it refuses to work on 64bit Windows, I preffer it over RF1.

Totally agree, Red Faction II is almost the worst FPS game I've ever played.

Red Faction 2 has worse story, gameplay and looks worse than RF1

Did you ever play Red Faction 1? I don't think RF2 was terrible, but it's pretty evident that it lacks almost everything that made the first Red Faction so great, such as the destructible environments that was pretty much the point of the game. Blowing up a statue or making a telephone pole fall over isn't exactly as exciting or for that matter technically intriguing as blowing up a bridge, digging tunnels or destroying the ground under someone's feet as you could do in the first Red Faction. RF2 doesn't do anything with the destructible environments that Duke Nukem 3D, Sin or Quake 2 didn't do many years before it, whereas no game other than maybe Minecraft and it's clones can rival Red Faction 1's Geo-Mod technology, not even Red Faction Guerrilla or Battlefield's Frostbite engine allows you to deform the terrain like you could in the 10+ years older RF1.

Ugh, I just slogged through this poor excuse for a game, and I am just left feeling like I wasted my time. This is by far one of the worst games I have had the displeasure of playing. I don't know how it is even possible to take a gem like RF1 and somehow create such a steaming pile of crap as the sequel.

The storyline is bad, and really makes no frigging sense.
The game has absolutely nothing to do with mars.
The characters are all cartoony and look stupid. Their personalities are really lame.
The voice acting is horrible.
The sound effects make me cringe constantly.
The level design is bad, and the graphics are ugly.
The geomod is barely used, and used poorly when it is.
What little vehicles there were, were poorly executed.
The boss battles were extremely lame and really annoying.

This game just sucks really, really hard. If they didn't keep saying "red faction" all the time, I would never know it was related to the first game, it is that different.

I much preferred #1 to any RF game.

I don't understand at all how they ruined the series so bad, I remember how amazing it was back on the PS2 to have a game where you could blow up the terrain. In the end battles turned out to be blowing holes into walls and making secret bases, there used to be a map where there was a huge rocky bridge and you could cut it off so it fell down, the newest RF is pretty much just destroying buildings etc. and being annoyed that they never get rebuilt.

RF was good for the geomod and that was it, there were hundreds of FPS games for the PS2 so this was a breath of fresh air, then they decided that people loved the fact that it was an FPS and slowly removed the geomod, with certain walls that could be slightly damaged in a static way.

Yeah I hear what you are saying. I am playing RF: Guerrilla now and while the destruction of the buildings is absolutely amazing, the geomod is totally missing. They kind of went in the complete other direction with it. In the next RF game, they would do well to put both the building and terrain destruction together, and they would have one incredible game!

I played both, these are old games, and people can rarely see these games with a fresh mind like all those years back. Back in the day, I absolutely adored this game. I never found the original much good; it had horrible performance, a total lack of features, and as I recall a lack of multiplayer. I think people need to give this game more credit. I consider RF2 to be the best of all the RF series; the first was clumsy and clunky, and all the ones after RF2 became all about destructable environments, and well.. not all of us have pent up destructive desires.. some of us like to PLAY and have fun and do kewl stuff. There's more to a game than blowing ♥♥♥♥ up. xD IMO, anyways.

A pure ♥♥♥♥ game. 5 hour long campagine compared to RF 9-10 hour long campagine. The game some how looks worse than RF1.

After years filled with Doom, Duke Nukem, Hexen, Quake and Serious Sam (among others), RF2 came as one of the last of a dying breed. RF1 already came in the aftermath of that level-based, liniar, single goal kind of game, actually a mere extension to the previous platform style. But RF2 even managed to take a step back, a sorry exuse for an FPS, really. I remember having played RF1 rather extensively before finally switching to open world RPG's that are so much more diverse in style and goal.

I would just quote the OP. It really is a disappointing game, falls so short, even due to the premises that Red Faction originally set. A true disappointing game, don't buy it unless you have to (it often gets bundled with Red Faction 1).

yea i jsut beat RF1 and lovd it to death...was so excitedto play RF2... and 10 mins in... i feel sick.... like this game has nothing to do with RF1... in any way shape or form or style of play... nothing... i instantly uninstalled it... i couldnt even force myself to beat it v__v

RF2 feels like it went backwards RF1 in my opinion can hold up to gaming today...but 2 just looked and played worse then 1... like 2 was made in the 80's or something... seriously what was teh company thinking....

i will now be skipping RF2 and moving right in guriella

The game is complete ass & a disgrace to the Red Faction name.

I remember being alright with it as a wee lad playing on the PS2 but this game is truly laughable.

Has anyone ever managed to complete this game on hard?

Now I always play games through on hard first time, because normal is just too easy. This however is just ridiculous.

The shooting mechanics are just absolutely awful.

There will be a guy running at me, and I've got my sights aimed smack in the middle of him, at which point I'll fire and literally half the bullets just fly straight by him. The bullets just aren't centered at all, and when your trying to take out literally 10 people at once it is just frustrating. The most viable option is to just sit behind a corner and wait for the enemy to run around it, or better yet, simply spam grenades.

I have a very strong feeling that when realising how completely broken the shooting mechanics were, that the devs decided to simply give the player 30 grenades.

30 friggin grenades! I thought this was a shooter, is there such a genre as 'exploder'?

Back to RF1!
