Story wasnt much to write home about thou. The only thing youd miss out on really is the lore of the world which is solid. You could just watch a youtube video for this. You likely wont be able to beat the first game in 4 days (if you do all or most content), I am unemployed atm and I doubt playing 12+ hours a day, id be able to beat dragons dogma 1 lmao.
Id just say play 2. They know most people will not have played the first game, so likely theyre making it more of a blank slate type of deal.
The opening of the first game tells you basically that countless Arisen have walked the path you're about to walk. You play as one for a few minutes before making your character.
In DD2, we'll see if we can do something about that.
So if you haven't played the first one, you'd kinda have the bonus of going into the world completely fresh, while at the same time, as a DD1 vet, you'd have the possible bonus of nostalgia and re-visiting places that where important or otherwise stuck with you in the first game.
Story-wise though, nah, I don't think the games are really interdependent, think of DD2 as being a different Arisen in the more or less same world at some time after the stuff that happened in DD1.
That said a lot of the mechanics from the leaks seem to be quite similar so if you do decide to play the first it will help you understand how the universe works and give you a feel of the core gameplay loop. I recommend it because it is a good game even though the story is meh. I know that does not sound like a good reason of why you should play but keep in mind just how many people despite it's poor initial sales have praised the game, there is a reason for why people recommended it and wanted a sequel to a game that came out twelve years ago.
It is honestly a contradiction game as if you decide not to try the first game you will not miss out on anything, but if you play the game and LIKE it you will feel like you needed to play it.
I hope you get to play both eventually. Enjoy DD 2 if you getting it!
