Might happen - but I think the chances are ... limited at best.
Like, usually, they're either announced way in advance, or are planned and pushed as part of a season pass at launch.
Expecting a renewed investment for this game, given its sales compared to other Capcom franchises... I just can't see it as a good investment.
Not that an expansion can't be awesome - but DD2 itself was a bit of a stinker in terms of reception and sales after launch. Good presales - then players just sort of evaporated, down to 1-4 thousand for the past 6 or so months.
Did a little digging the game sold 10 mil copies more then enough reason to release an expansion to this story. And apparently some people did some digging Steamdb at the app and a dlc part has been getting updated or something of that matter no expert but overall just hopeful it is true and it does get released or announced soon.
They made the last expansion largely without him - but still, it reduced the internal clout of the project further.
Maybe that's the total sales from all the games in the series? That would make sense then - but DD2 itself, I'm only seeing 2.5 million presales, then 3 million total sales, meaning only 0.5 million sales after launch.
Edit: Yeah, seems the 10 million is for the whole series, not DD2.
3 million off DD2 since May 2024

10 million in sales combined,

With current 11.7 Million total sales currently

Either way since its a public company the investors are happy with this IP by Capcom another big push could happen for DLC for this titles since it easily recouped there money and got the investors paid extra money as well

On a side not i am not a fan of IGN but at least this was an actual article rather then nonsense.
It's going to depend on whether they can turn something out they think will make a decent profit, which is going to be a function of how much it costs to make and what sales they think theyll get.
Id guess that once you've built the main game, adding stuff on is cheaper. And sales of DD2 exceeded capcom's predictions, they've increased their divvies and the share price is up a third over the ytd. Seem to be doing pretty well for themselves.
So id guess yes. Wd seem silly not to take the extra profit. Looking at the original's timeline, I think it launched may 2012, they annouced the expansion dec 2012, and it launched the following april.
Not sure if that sort of cycle is still feasible in this day and age though. cyberpunk released dec 2020, but phantom liberty wasn't announced till sept 2022 and released a year later. My guess is a while.
