How good is the story in this game?
I wanna get this game, but story is very important to me in RPGs. How good is it here? Is it enticing enough that you wanna find out what happens, you cant see the twists coming, and you care about the characters?

Also do you have sufficient impact on the outcomes? Do your decisions matter and lead to real consequences?

Doesn't get good until the last 10%. Most characters don't have the screentime to be fleshed out so you can only enjoy them for their superficial archetypes. There's a couple interesting ideas; if you've played the first game the worldbuilding tackles some blind spots from the original.

I'll cut to the chase though, I don't think this is a game you should play for the story unless your bar is really low. It's mostly about exploring, feeling like an adventurer and such. If you focus the main story you'll spend most of your time in towns or trudging back and forth between the same three locations. The plot never really asks you to go off the beaten path, so I think it'd be seeing the game for its worse half.

I care about the characters whether there is a set narrative or not.
In my imagination every character gets a back story unique to their experiences while I'm playing the game.

Extremely weak. It's like a plot written by a kid with ADHD. You forget what the game is about half way through and don't even care.

Story? There's a story?

It's utterly forgettable. 17 hours in and I feel no attachment to any of the characters.

If you care about the story, you should play DD1 first.
I thought it wouldn't matter and it would even be detrimental before DD2 was out, but after playing it, seems like DD2 makes very little sense if you didn't play DD1 first.

The story is nothing to write home about, really. As it was said before, if you plan on playing the game, you’re going to get most of your enjoyment and entertainment from the combat, managing your pawns, exploring and stuff like that.

The story is really bad. Once you get to battahl the story is 80 percent over

Incredible. The story changed my life.

There is no story, dragon stole your heart, be king some knight gives you quests while sitting in bar, kill dragon repeat. Thats about it

DD1 one was alot different mainly everything revolves around your struggle to ascension, and sacrifice. First game got pretty wild not like any typical story and character driven RPG.

Open world but linear story, do not expect a BG3.

The main plot is sorta split in two. The kingdom political machination stuff is really good and makes sense. The other part of the plot is more fantastical multiverse and life cycle stuff but in my opinion its far less interesting. Sorta like with Final Fantasy Tactics the early plot is way better than the end of the plot where it starts involving all this silly over the top stuff that just ruins the realistic drama plot to replace it with typical jrpg "now fight god"
