Microtransactions are not always a problem
Okay, I agree that we don't want microtransactions in games, but the convenience-only microtransactions in Dragons Dogma 2 (reason for review bombing) is just an issue of perspective.

Here, let me explain as briefly as possible:

1️⃣ Do we not want more singleplayer games?
Microtransactions have provided a way for devs to make singleplayer games more competitive with multiplayer and mobile games - something we need.

2️⃣ All these items are available without much grinding in game
There have been games that didn't let you make multiple saves. All Capcom did was allow that convenience for $2. If you don't want to pay, then just play the game.

3️⃣ Rising costs and inflation.
Seriously, a $60 game from 10 yr ago was charging you more that a $70 game today, due rising development cost and inflation. If we don't want to see $90 games in future, using microtransactions to make up that difference from few people who pay keeps the game cheaper for rest of us.

4️⃣ Profitability keeps the games industry alive and growing
With the recent layoffs, all this will do is dry up the interest, money, and manpower the games industry needs to keep producing big budget games. Don't want your hobby to die out? Maybe don't hound and slander developers to get a $70 product for $40.

Heck, rising costs and inability to jack up the selling price are partly what leads these big studios to questionable investment sources which come with their own set of conditions.

They're also part of the deluxe edition content that is now available as a bundle or individually, individually is the way to go since you don't need to buy the consumables that you can get in game without spending real money.

Ah yes, the poor indie studio Capcom needs to nickle and dime you on top of that $70 price tag in order to afford being able to make single player games.

DON'T YOU GET IT?! We have to support these poor multi million dollar companies and their anti consumer practices or else there won't be any more single player games in the future!

Hogwarts Legacy? Elden Ring? Baldur's Gate 3? Never heard of them.

This is still a singleplayer game. Therefore its still a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ move.

How else will they afford their multiple offshore accounts?

Ubisoft does this every game yet Assassins creed still sells millions, Except Ubisoft does it way worse than capcom from cosmetics to crafting supplies and updates it every week lol.

If this isn't trolling, then you're just a corporate suck-up.

People really need to separate their love for a franchise (or development team) and their need to defend a multi-million dollar company that only cares about your money before your personal enjoyment of a video game.

The more people like you defend it and make up excuses why it's healthy for the game and the more people actually purchase it, Capcom is going to push for more aggressive microtransactions be it testing the waters or going through with something that you will not like in the future, and you're part of the problem.

Not that I am condoning the following; This isn't the same as cosmetic DLC that took additional development time or any extra content in general, this is just putting a price tag on something you can already get in the game, the game you bought and is single player so the notion that it's there and it's balanced because of the price tag or its availability being farmable in game makes zero sense.

They're charging you for editing your character in a single player game.
They're charging you for LIVES in a single player game.
They're charging you for invocation experience points in a single player game.
They're charging you for fast travel in a single player game.

If someone really, really wanted to get an advantage they could just use a cheat engine in any other game and that'd be up to the player, with ZERO charge.

Stop normalising this, you are part of the problem
The fact that you're defending something silly as £1 to get out of jail as a CONSUMABLE no less is beyond embarrassing, I get your point with single player games but it's moot when the game costs £55 and there have been other single player games that has been released this year and last year that don't charge you for anything remotely the same as I've described above.

This isn't the first time Capcom has done this with their popular titles and they'll continue doing it as long as they have people like you defending their practises.

EA makes you to unlock Vader in 40 hours or buy it, everyone loses their minds.

Capcom makes you buy random sh**t like fast-travel, character unlocks and reroll tokens, this guy actually defends it.

People like this is an example why you should abandon Dragon Dogma2 in its watery grave and be done with it. Damage is done, there is no returning this game to glory. It barely made its way up to MIXED with its whatsleftof fanbase.

I don’t even know what to add, you hit the nail on the head.
But what’s also frightening is that this is becoming more and more popular because, according to corporate companies, “these are not microtransactions because they are not a game, but DLC.”
NO COMPROMISE TO MICRO TRANSACTIONS OR REAL MONEY BOOSTS.

You ever heard of the slippery slope?

It doesn't bother me so I don't care.

It doesn't effect me so i don't care.

It earnable in-game so i don't care.

Wait... why are they doing this bs now?

This is the vicious cycle. eventually they add stuff you don't like bc you and those that don't care always said who care? it doesn't affect me.

Before you start caring it's pretty much too late now, bc of people like you or another said it doesn't affect me so i don't care while some even calling people who do care stupid.
Angrypillow Mar 23, 2024 @ 12:13am
Anyone around here remember when the industry first started moving towards DLC instead of full expansions and everyone complaining about it? I do. How did we get from people caring about complete content to actually defending this nickle and diming ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥?
