Just bought the game, then it goes on Sale! WTF.
So I bought this game earlier this week because it was 25% (44 dollars on Nov. 21) off thinking that was the Sale and then all of a sudden it goes to 50% off? I feel like I just got ripped off a little from Steam. How are you guys going to put a sale on a game that just came out at 25% and then a couple days later drop it down another 25%. Anyone else fall for this?

I take it you are new to steam? The way their season sales work is that most games go on a generic low % rebate, then every day 6 are selected to have a higher % rebate for 48 hours. Add to that the flash sales, and basically you should NEVER be buying a game during steam sales unless its (A) during a daily/flash sale or (B) its the last day of that season's sale.

Just use your head next time and be a bit more patient. If you know there is a definite chance for a higher rebait within the next week or 2, you are the one being dumb by not waiting. What would you rather have, a slightly quicker instant gratification, or 10-20$ in your pocket?

No I'm not new to Steam but I guess I never really took that hard of a look at their sale system. This doesn't really make any sense to me as a consumer. I guess I need to reconsider buying a game on sale from now on.

The game was featured as a 25% discount during the Autumn Sale on the front page when I bought it. It isn't about the money.. the $14 won't make or break me.. but more about their system. Oh well

There are people who only buy games during the seasonal sales - because of this very reason. It's a risk you accept. Unlike a lot of retailers that give you a 30 day period where if a game goes cheaper theyll give you the difference - steam just does their own thing.

Yeah, I guess I am just waking up to this now. I won't make the same mistake again.

This would be like buying a LED TV at Wal-mart during their Black Friday "sale" and then once that sale is over Wal-mart lowers the price again of that exact same LED TV for their "real sale." For my loss.

You only buy games that are minorly on sale on the last day as it's 90% likely they'll get a bigger price drop

I guess I'm in the same boat, though I bought the game, what 2 hours before they dropped the price to 50% off. Saw that the sale at $44 ended tomorrow, thought 'Why not'. I am more mad at myself than Steam, If only I'd waited an hour or two more... :sigh:

Regardless of how the steam system works, this is still a bit of a ♥♥♥♥ move and pretty dirty tactics. Ok, sure things go on mega sale on the last day usually, but to put a game at 25% off one day, then 50% off 3 days later, that's starting to get to the point where you are taking advantage of your customers in a reverse auction sort of way.
Who is willing to pay this price? Ok, here you go.
Alright, who will pay a little less? Ok now you can play it.
Let's go a little lower. Now who will give us their money?

I don't know who sets the prices, Valve or the publisher, but regardless of how the steam sales work or what the procedure is, it's still unethical business practice. Saying "oh thats just how it is with steam sales", well then you are just allowing this behaviour occur.

Yes, it is a sale and prices are what they set, but if you are willing to sell a game for 50% off, then sell it for 50% off at the start, not try and milk your customer base for all they are worth.

Happened to everyone at some point =P
Stonefist Nov 25, 2012 @ 4:09pm
this same kind of thing happened to me once, except the discount on some dlc went from 25% off to 50% off within 10 minutes of me buying it, so I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at customer supprt and they gave me a refund so i could buy it at the new discounted price.
Moral of the story; try your luck with customer support. Good things can happen.

Yeah, I just found out I got stung buying it at the 25% off also. Annoyingly, the day after I bought it I got told Green Man Gaming had it for £11.50, but I went "oh, well..." at that. Didn't expect Steam to shaft me over the price also!

And yeah, this is my first time buying in a Steam sale. That's no excuse though.

I've bought many games in steam sales throughout the years [and many games at full price on steam, for that matter].
I was actually tempted to buy Dishonored when it was 25% off, but I didn't end up doing so. Now that I see it at 50% off mere days later, I know for sure I will now *NOT* be buying it.
You vote with your wallet, and I for one will not be supporting such behaviour by purchasing the product.

Ya, that's not a matter of being ripped off, that's a matter of not being patient.

This is how sales work in any facet of life, ya you might see something on sale, but you could hold out a couple more days and it could drop even lower (or return to the original sale price), it's just a game of judgement, and in this one you were just unlucky and made the wrong call is all.
