At Lady Boyle's party, walk a CIVILLIAN into the wall of light WITHOUT rewiring it. Do not use soldiers, any of the Boyle sisters or maids, it won't work with any them.
I just got the achievement as well. Like you said, I didn't mess with the Wall of Light and just possessed party guests (No guards, maids, or Boyle sisters) and dropped them in the Wall of Light and the achievement popped up.
I guess this one could be added to the buggy achievement pile (I should've gotten "Clean Hands" and "Shadow" as well but didn't, I've read those are buggy too).
Works if you do it in one life. The achivements need to be more descriptive.
To be fair, this is actually how it is intended to work. By rewiring the wall of light, it becomes an intentional homicide by you. Normally, authorized people - guards, boyle family - would be safe walking through the gate. But if it is rewired, it doesn't count as a suicide because authorized people would assume that they were safe. In other words - burning to a crisp would come as a surprise to them.
If you leave the wall untouched and use party guests, however, it counts as a suicide because the guests know damn well not to go near the wall of light, lest they want to get burned to a crisp. By walking a guest into the wall that they know not to go into, then it becomes a suicide.
So the action taken at first - rewiring the wall - really makes quite the difference, and it makes sense in the context of the game. I'm quite interested actually, in whether the subject of a possession is aware of his or her actions in the possessed state, according to the lore.
I'd also like to know if deaths that goes towards unintentional suicides actually counts as kills. Does anyone know this?
Nope, but it is the easiest. It helps if you start by possessing the guards, so you can walk them away and neutralize them silently. I did this and walked their bodies into the room with the wall of light generator, where I would either kill them or incapacitate them. Afterwards, possess and walk a guest into the wall of light, only when there is no other guest to witness them dying.
What is glitchy about it? Should the Boyles allow guests to walk through their wall of light? Read my explanation to the other guy in this post.
Also, using the described Boyle Party trick, it should be possible to possess 5 guests, walk them near the Wall of Light and then windblast them into it in one go w/o having to worry 'bout running masked aristocrates... ;)
I had no problem getting the achievements in the same run (that's the Ghost achievement). You're sure you ghosted every level?
Yeah, windblasting people into a Wall of Light definitely doesn't count as them committing suicide
The following was done on the "Very Hard" difficulty setting.
Must have the second level of Possession power, obviously. Also a very good idea to have all 10 mana potions in your inventory, as you'll need them.
1. Steal the security closet key off the guard standing nearest the wall of light. Unlock the door
on said closet but do not go in.
2. Head into the pool table room (the same room as the closet door is in) and take up position so you can see the overseer. When there's not many others areound, possess him, walk him into the security closet, close door behind you, release and kill him. Be careful not to release him too close to the whale oil canisters or they'll blow up, killing you and the guard. Dump his body on the other side of the crates in there, thus hiding him. Exit closet as stealthily as possible.
3. Possess guard closest to the WOL, kill and dispose of him in the same way as step 2.
4. NOW you should be able to start possessing guests and walking them near the wall of light, near enough so when you release them they stumble into it and get zapped.
CAREFUL -- If a maid sees you as you release a guest and become yourself they will alert the guards. ALSO.... a second overseer may start patrolling through this area of the party from time to time, so be vigilant. Don't waste mana walking him to the closet, just let him walk his route, you'll have plenty of time to "do the guests" who are in the near vicinity. (However, there was this one guard who kept walking near me in the pool table room, and he would kick me saying "move along", or "Put that way and get out".... so I took him to the closet, and quite happily so got rid of him).
MORE TIPS: At one point there were two guests just standing in the foyer (near to the guestbook), and they would see me every time I did a guest suicide. SOLUTION: I possessed one of those two, walked him into the pool table room and released him there, getting him out of the way. Then I possessed and walked the other one into the WOL, then went back and took him out.
None of the guards, maids, or Boyle sisters are eligible for this achievement.
Do NOT rewire the wall of light. Repeat: DO NOT REWIRE the wall of light.
This method worked the very first time I tried it, achievement aquired after the first 5 guests.
