User Interface Options Explained.
Have just started the game and am hoping those of you that have played through can help explain the User Interface options. I will then know what to turn off, making what many say is an easy game a bit more challenging.

The manual is crap. A Google search comes up with general statements concerning the options but no hard explanations . If someone has a link to good explanations it would be appreciated.

I have "come up lame" and will out of work for a few days. I would like to jump into a good game with this info ahead of time to save me from having to ruin the emersion by experimenting.

Some of these are self-explanatory but it may as well be a complete list. I am not just lazy. I have read these forums and know that many of you can explain these games with professional detail, certainly better than I.

The options are:

Show Health/ Mana Gauges
Show Objective Pop-ups
Show Tutorial notifications
Show Interactions
Show Focus Highlights
Show Pick-up Log
Show Contextual Icons
Show Player Stance
Show Objective Markers
Show Grenade Markers
Show Awareness Markers
Show Heart Markers
Show Crosshair Style
Show Crosshair Movement
Show Crosshair Opacity

I asked the same question on the forums here, so come and keep a discussion going: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=33113153#post33113153

What I've found so far, about the ones that aren't self-explanatory:
- "Interactions" shows the text for interactions, such as "[F] Pick up" or "[F] Eat"
- "Pick-up Log" shows you a picture and name of whatever you just picked up, as to confirm that it's now in your inventory
- "Contextual Icons" means the graphical icons for your possible actions, such as when you can press Space to climb something, or can press Left Ctrl to choke a guard.

The other ones should be pretty obvious. If you find anything else or different, I'd love if you'd share it in the thread

Show Objective Markers is the main one that needs turning off.

(Unfortunately there are a few points where the game doesn't "properly" tell you where things are. You'll need to switch it back on in those instances.)

I always wondered what crosshair movement and focus highlights do.

I just figured out what "Focus highlights" do. Its the yellow shimmer that usable items have. And crosshair movement determines how much your crosshair (If turned on) moves when you're sprinting or landing from a distant fall.

This game is not an easy game, it's hard as ♥♥♥♥ as it is.
