Slackjaw Bug?
I got the combination for the art dealer's safe and am trying to return it to Slackjaw, but he attacks me on site. None of the other thugs in the distillery attack me, only Slackjaw. Is there any workaround so that I can complete this mission without killing the bad guys?

did you OPEN the safe? I played it safe and didn't and he was fine with me.

Also, you can't take any hostile action near him, like kill a rat, or slide into him

I had the same problem. After returning from the doctor's house he was standing on the stairway and would attack on sight. There's a damn rune I will neve get.

I opened and looted the safe, there was a rune or artifact inside. He still considered the deal as valid, and everything went fine for me.
So I don't think opening it is a deal breaker.

On my previous visit I wanted in to the locked "utility" room where the weepers were. I unlocked the door and ran off so that his men would have to deal with them and I was free to loot the room. I never actually touched anyone, and no one was hostile to me at the time. I wonder if that was enough to be considered a Hostile action. If so I'm just screwed. No peaceful ending to that mission for me I guess.

I keep failing the optional mission during chapter 3. I sneak all the way through and will either randomly fail the mission... speak to him and get aggro'ed halfway through conversation... or like my first time through I turn in the mission... start to acquire the second part... and he attacks me then... What's the fix??
Same Slackjaw problem here. Everyone is neutral but Slackjaw. I can give him that clues if I sneak up behind him but then he turns around and attacks.

I ran into this too. Turned out that, in my case at least, it was caused by patrolling thugs outside encountering bodies (of people killed by Weepers that somehow broke out of their holding cell) while I was speaking with Slackjaw. In the end, I had to knock out *all* remaining Thugs that were in the courtyard area, and also make sure there were no bodies inside the building.

Once I'd done that, I was able to hand in the side-mission.

Had this bug with Boyle's Party mission. Everyone else was fine with me, but maides and Boyle's saw me as hostiles and when they detected me, everyone else attacked me.

Had to restart mission.... I think if you DONT do his stuff first it will always glitch

At least you can all finish it. I have to skip the optional mission entirely because every time i leave the doctors house the game crashes.

In my experience with this area, if you make any hostile actions in his area, (kill weepers, shoot a bolt at the ceiling, swing your sword at the ground) Slackjaw and his crew will become hostile. Even if you think that you're helping Slackjaw by defending his crew from the escaping weepers or rats, you're not; the targets of your hostile actions are not considered — only the nature of your actions.

People, I know how to solve this, tell everyone!
There were weepers in the basement, and thugs attacked them for some reason and became hostile, so I rushed there and killed all the weepers by myself and everyone stayed calm

In my case, as I enter the Distillery, there's a dead body to the right just past the initial stairs down. Even if I grab that body and hide it, at some point I will get the mission failed message and everyone goes hostile. It looks like in addition to that body, there's also the weepers in the basement area that are causing an issue. They go hostile, the guards attack them, and one of the guards gets killed (I think it's one near the entrance to the weeper cage -- I ran down there once and watched a guard spewing fire at the weepers and another guard came up behind him and did the same -- he killed the first guard in the process and caused me to get the failed mission message).

I've tried hiding and waiting (even outside the area after entering it). I've tried "Do Nothing" after first talking to Slackjaw. I've tried various reloads and various paths through the area. I've tried rushing to the basement and tranquilizing the weepers (which causes me to be noticed, so I lose the ghost thing). I've tried standing in front of the guards so they can't kill each other. Nothing works. Through no fault of mine, I can't complete this mission. I don't understand why the developer hasn't fixed this bug.

EDIT: I also watched that same (first) guard spewing flame at the weepers kill HIMSELF because the flaming liquid apparently bounced off the bars back onto him.

EDIT 2: Got it! Instead of running in as fast as I could to try and beat the weepers causing trouble, I tried dawdling around in the outer part of the distillery. After a while, I noticed the guards inside the inner distillery looking around for things ("we've got a prowler"). At that point, I went in and talked to Slackjaw. Since the guards were out and about looking for me (no idea why), they couldn't attack the weepers and kill themselves. I got through both conversations, saved, and hightailed it out.
