Crash during startup [FIXED]
I see I'm not the only one that's having this type of issue, and I've already done some of the troubleshooting that I've read (I didn't do everything because I haven't had time yet).

Here is the crash report from Windows:

Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Dishonored.exe Application Version: 1.0.0.0 Application Timestamp: 5167d60f Fault Module Name: MSVCR90.dll Fault Module Version: 9.0.30729.6161 Fault Module Timestamp: 4dace5b9 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0003ae7a OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 0a9e Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Additional Information 3: 0a9e Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

Here's what I've done:

Uninstall, reboot, reinstall.
Uninstall, physx=false, reinstall.
Uninstall, physx=false, ccleaner (files and registry), reboot, reinstall.
Uninstall, physx=false, ccleaner (F&R), UniBlue system cleaner, reboot, reinstall.
Uninstall, physx=false, ccleaner (F&R), UniBlue system cleaner, reinstall video drivers, reboot, reinstall.
Uninstall, physx=false, ccleaner (F&R), UniBlue system cleaner, reboot, chkdsk on boot, reinstall.

The power went out while I was playing the game (transformer at the power station blew). Anyone have any other suggestions? I found this page {LINK REMOVED} and am up to step 7 on their suggested fixes. I'm really hoping to not have to format/replace the hard drive and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure steam cloud is enabled for steam and dishonored if it isnt the game will crash

It is and it has been the whole time. After running sfc /scannow and a more thorough chkdsk (doing it via command line only did the 3 step, going into computer management > disk management and doing it via advanced settings ran the 5 step), it's still not working and gives me the same error.

i had a similar problem after a system freeze (no BSOD). i was able to launch the game but crashed at the first loading screen. I checked the saved game folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\170481\205100\remote

and deleted the most recent save (said 0 KB for me). this fixed my problem. not sure if this is related.

Had this problem too.
Try this:
Delete remotecache.vdf in
Steam\userdata\usernumber\205100
disable steam cloud (close settings window)
enable steam cloud (close settings window)
Let steam sync your saved games.
Launch Dishonored.

Here's what I'm up to: I currently have no Dishonored files installed, any/all files above have been deleted, deregistered (ran a registry cleaner to remove all handles), I ran ccleaner, wiped free space, ran the ccleaner registry cleaner, uniblue registry cleaner, and it just finished defraging. I'm redownloading it and will let you know what happens.

Alright, here's the verdict. The issue is somewhere in my cloud saves. I installed it and ran it and it crashed. I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\5558675309\205100, restarted in offline mode (thus disabling the ability to sync with the cloud), deleted the files in the remote folder as well as the remotecache.vdf file AND disabled cloud sync. Then I ran the game and now it works fine.

So! Here's a step by step:
1) Install game
2) Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\usernumber\game
3) Restart Steam in offline mode
4) Delete files in game\remote folder
5) Delete remotecache.vdf file
6) Launch game.

What I'm going to try is playing for a while, saving, and then re-enabling cloud sync AFTER backing up the local saves to another location (such as copying the folder to the desktop). Hopefully that will overwrite the remote files with the local ones and I'll be able to resume normal play.

Just FYI, the wipe free space in CCleaner is a security option. You only need to do that if you have - something to hide. Wipe free space will make it so that any deleted files will be near impossible to recover, should you ever need to.
Glad you fixed your problem.

for those who still have this problem, i've been diging around lately in hope to find a fix for this "bug", in fact, when i gone into the general tabs, the enable cloud option for this game was inactif (can't check/uncheck it) but the case was checked. So i tough the cloud was activated. It was only late in the night that i found out that the cloud in the settings wasn't activated at all in the steam's settings (view/settings/cloud), so you might want to get here first instead of doing a lot of time wasting action (like re-installing the game? :/)

Fixed it by putting the Steam Cloud synchronizing on :|

That's good. It can be more complicated for some people though - I think it happens when save games get corrupted and the corrupted saves are uploaded.

Ok so sometimes in the registry weird stuff happens so what u need to do is download REVO Uninstaller (even the free version would do the trick) what this uninstaller does is it uninstalls the game but not only that it also deletes any leftovers in the registry etc just do that and the issue will be fixed i can guarantee it 99.9% this is not the 1st time im using this software and it always worked wonders for me. i hope it helps u too

Thanks but it will not save my game :(
