Hey there .o/

I don't remember for sure if Dishonored was one of them, but I know that some games may fail to install if you have a more recent version of some of their pre-requisites¹ than the ones they come with.

You can see which pre-requisites Dishonored is shipped with by looking inside your "<Steam folder>\steamapps\common\Dishonored\Binaries\Redist" directory.
Then you may try uninstalling any version of these before attempting to install the game again.

Also, if installing the game succeeds after this, you may still want to reinstall/update to the newer versions, both because other games might need these, and perhaps even for security reasons.

¹ : such as Microsoft's Visual C++ runtimes for example

Thank you all, I keep you updated as soon as I have it installed.

So I re-installed it and I have the exact same problem, the game install itself then when I want to launch it it just won't, I have the small installation screen with "msiexec" for about 4 second and then ... nothing happened !
Does Steam try to fix that ?!
I'm not suppose to be a freaking engineer to be able to play that game !!
Also I remember launching that game on this PC and being able to see the title screen. This was like 6 month ago. And now I can !!
That's just f***ed up !

SO I found a thread about MSIexec for Dishonored, it's about PhysX but folowing the instruction just made that the instal pop-up with msiexec don't show up anymore.
Here's the post :

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2964553

"I just was able to fix msiexec always launching and trying to install due to the fact that the PhysX installed on my computer are newer than the version included with the game.

Here's how I fixed it:

First, make sure that PhysX is what is causing the problems.

To do this, go to C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dishonored\Binaries\R edist
(Replace C:\Program Files\Steam with the folder where you installed Steam)

Then, double-click on the file named PhysX-9.11.1111-SystemSoftware_bak.msi

Accept the license agreement and then it should pop up with an error stating that "The currently installed version of the drivers is newer than what you are trying to install".

Next, we'll tell steam that PhysX was actually installed correctly.

Open up the registry editor (open up the start menu and type regedit)

If you're running 64-bit windows, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Valve\Stea m\Apps\205100
If you're running 32-bit windows, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam\Apps\20510 0

Then, go to the Edit menu and select New -> and then select DWORD Value.

Name the new value PhysXRedist

Finally, double-click on PhysXRedist and in the pop-up window, set its value to 1.

The Registry Editor should now look something like this: http://imgur.com/0vBFPDl
You can ignore the other registry values.

Now, start up Dishonored, if PhysX was the problem, then it should be fixed"

I don't know what to do :(

what error do you get exactly? black screen and then it closes itself?
did you try some of the stuff in the other thread like compatibility mode and turning off the cloud?

HI
Yes I have a back screen for half a second (like it wanted to launch the game (the icone shows up in the task bar for half a second to) then nothing ...
I don't have any error message, nothing.
I try everything I could find on internet. With and without the cloud, in admin mode, reinstaling the game from scratch ... The only thing I didn't try is to downgrade Microsoft Visual C++ I think but I don't know how to do it and I'm scared it can mess with my graphism programs or other games.
The worst is that game seems to worked 8 month ago when I try to launch it with Sweet FX but I didn't try to start the game, I just launch it and try SFX on the menu and everything seemed to work fine.
I don't understand how they can sell a game that won't work (actually a lot of people experienced problem for that game). ANd it's a great game, I've played it on PS3 but now I want to play all the DLC I have :(
Thanks for your time.
PEACE

did you try editing the config file and changing the resolution of the game to something lower?

The rez is 1080p, my PC is good enough to run this game in full on this rez so I don't think it's the problem (i5 3500, Radeon HD 7800 series with 16 Go of ram with Win7 64)
Thank tho

Heya!
I'm in the same position as you, picked it for $5 and finally decided to download it. I'm not exactly sure what exactly to do other than downgrade all my apps (Windows 8.1 is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare when it comes to selective downloading). Did you find any surefire way to fix this? Or is it just conjecture?
5M0k1N 18 maj, 2015 @ 16:07
sorry for late reply but reading again what you say it makes me think the issue is related to sweetfx. installing it probably changed some entries and its now looking for them but cant find em or something. reinstalling dishonored wont probably change anything if those entries are in the registry or whatever (not sure how sweetfx works). maybe you should try installing sweetfx again?

If you are not using a 64bit version of SweetFX may be problem one

using Sweet FX on Windows8.1 may be problem two

If you are using the beta 64bit unofficial verson with a Radeon card you maybe got problem three

Sweet FX is a problem with new hardware and software.

Personally, I'd take it off my machine unless you are running a 32bit windows with the SweetFX v.2.whatever.
