Dishonored
How good is Dishonored, stealth-wise?
I'm currently looking for a good stealth game, and Dishonored was second on that list (Mark of the Ninja being above, but I'm looking for something more... open.)

Dishonored is very good stealth-wise; I would argue that the stealth is the best part of the gameplay. It allows for different playstyles ("ghost", assassin, etc) and has very open level design. The AI is forgiving but works solidly, and the magic powers give you lots of options to evade or destroy your enemies.

Gameplay aside, the art style/graphics are awesome (although textures can be blurry at times) and I really liked the story. I definitely reccomend it, especially for a fan of stealth games.

Probably one of the better stealth games I have played. Have now played through it 3-4 times in the last week or so. Its a lot of fun and there is plenty to do if you do all the side missions and stuff.

Just to get it out of the way, Dishonored is a fantastic game.
Regarding stealth in particular, it is based on line of sight and sound propagation. Darkness can help you hide at a distance, but there is no real shadow system like in the Thief games. One level lets you wander openly while disguised.
Guards will gradually get more suspicious if they hear something or catch a glimpse of you, and will go to full alert upon getting a good look at you (You can see this visually if you turn on their alert markers, though you shouldn't do it if you care about immersion). If you eliminate a guard without being detected, other guards will eventually notice no one is patrolling his area, and add that patrol to their own, which is a nice touch. Guard vision cones are fairly narrow on lower difficulties, but quite reasonable on Very Hard. Very Hard difficulty also makes you die fast enough to encourage not screwing up--on normal difficulty you can fight your way through most mistakes.
Each level of Dishonored is pretty open with multiple routes, side missions, and various ways of disposing of your target. Exploration is rewarded with loot, lore, and runes/bone charms.

Great stealth game that offers several methods to complete a mission. Does allow you to play game non-stealth with several types of weapons. The map is open for a variety of lines of travel. Allows you to play the game several times with different results.

It's my favourite stealth game. The abilities and powers Corvo gets through the story are wide in variety and allow for various different playstyles and the level of choice you, as the player has when dealing with enemies and targets and navigating through the game is extraordinary.

It varies depending on how you play, or is it a choice you make beforehand?

It matters how you play. Don't kill or alert people is one way to play and changes the game. Kill everyone and go crazy will change the game in another way.

O.o That sounds cool. Unlike -Dark- where guards doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ if he's all alone.

Dishonored is only a stealth game IF you play it as a stealth game. Otherwise it can be any kind of game from a full on FPS to an entire no kills minimal contact stealth game to any mix you wish between the two extremes. For that very reason, and human error of course, Dishonored has great replayability. Then there is the achievements to go for which in themselves taken indivdually adds enormously to in game time. I know for a fact some people have several hundred hours invested in Dishonored with no intention of mothballing the game. Myself included. So no worries. Got Game!

I believe it's one of the bet stealth games I've ever played.
I reccommend this game for all the previously mentioned reasons, and I'll just add in that the music is stellar. Jon Licht, Voodoo Highway, all sorts of indie rockers.
I promise no story-related spoilers, but I'll warn you that you get punished for killing instead of ghosting through like a shadow in the night. Sometimes just emotionally. You were seen by that maid and cut her throat so she wouldn't scream? You get to hear the guard in the next room rehearsing his proposal to her.
Trust me, it's the small stuff in this game that'll really touch you.
its the best stealth game ever

Dishonored was really fun, but it's fun in the sense that Corvo is really overpowered and you run around being a superhero magic ninja and ignoring stealth a lot of the time if you so choose, since you can stop time and summon hurricanes and shoot everyone in the face.

If you want something where stealth is enforced that leans more towards living by your wits or dying (though you still have a couple of powers), I would also recommend Styx: Master of Shadows.

Dishonoured is a great challenge, although as ed said you can be an OP magic ninja assassin. If this is the case, turn the difficulty up. No joke.
