Dishonored

Well this sucks...
Annoyingly, at one point during Lady Boyles party, someone heard a noise but didn't see me. They buggered off.

Now we're all wearing masks... I go outside, watchmen don't bat an eyelid when they see me and I kill Shaw in the a duel, but when I go inside, immediately everyone goes, ZOMG! Surely he is a killer! and immediately attacks me. It's like, WTF?

I didn't caught. I was never seen. I never actually raised any alarms, but it seems now that whenever I go downstairs anywhere, I am immediately attacked. Hell, even maids trigger that ♥♥♥♥.

I can escape, because I've done everything... all I needed was the crap in the basement, but it's a pain in the ass when the game isn't behaving itself.

Anyone else had this issue?

Do all your pilfering before you set up Lady Boyles demise. Whether by violent or non-violent means, once done the party goers "find her missing" and are alarmed, as they remember where they saw that mask you wore. Your wanted poster.

That's correct. After you deal with her, you have a limited amount of time to get outside the mansion. As you found, no one in the grounds suspects anything so, at that point, you're okay.

Wanted poster? I don't remember but when did I ever show myself so that people knew what I looked like before going to the party? :\

Also, it doesn't make sense if the Watch one one side of the door are fine with me in my mask, while on the other side they're like "I KNOW EXACTLY WHO YOU ARE!". Lady Boyle was gone for only but a for mins. For all anybody knows, she was going for a ♥♥♥♥ and not trying to get any of it on her white outfit. Oh no!

Just seems more buggy than something that was intended. If it was intended, it was sloppy.

I still got everything from the safe and since I had the key I just used the back door to the sewers, which I couldn't access before. So even though I wasn't actually detected, and nobody saw me do anything to Lady Boyle and nobody should know my mask (since it was made by Piero - unless I'm forgetting something), then the conclusion jumping is rather spectacular.

I'm past this mission anyway now, so it matters not.

Nope. There is a wanted poster of Corvo with and with out his mask on. No one knows for sure but Corvo is suspected and blamed for killing the Empress and also for killing or doing away with several of the social elite starting the first mission to get Campbell. The masked dude is myth and legend amongst the citizenry. Slackjaw knows enough to get the word out. The guards have dreams about 'the mask' that keep them from getting good sleep. You have to listen to them when they talk to themselves.
Even one of the Boyle sisters can work her connections to get a message and a gift of thanks to Corvo that makes it to the Hounds Pub before Corvo himself can return from the party. That should tell you something right there. Remember that all those involved with the killing of the Empress are also part of the conspiracy to frame Corvo for it. They know who's coming... it's why they are all guarded up to the eyeballs.

Here are the two Wanted posters I've found, so far...

Is there another one I missed? If so, do you recall where it is?

I don't recall off hand where it is, but I do know there is a poster orange/red in color I think, that has two images of Corvo. One image is with out the mask and the other an image wearing the mask. Either that or it was at a point in the game where I had too much coffee to drink or not enough. :D

Does anyone know why the guests became hostile to me *before* killing Boyle?

I used a rat tunnel to get to the private quarters, found the identity of the target Boyle, went out Esme's balcony door, dueled Lord Shaw for Treavor, then went back in -- and within seconds, the whole place was hostile. The first room (with the food) was fine, including talking to one of the Boyle sisters roaming, but as soon as I went to the hall and another sister was alerted to me, everyone started attacking.

I was never found in an off-limit area, though I did leave guard bodies upstairs. Could that be it?

Probably. As the party wears on, one of the Boyle ladies sometimes wanders upstairs and may have seen the guards' bodies.

BTW, if you want a good place to store the bodies where no one will ever find them, put them in the attic.

Actually your wanted posters change depending on if you were seen or not as well as high and low chaos.

If you're playing for "Ghost" your wanted posters will display a question mark instead of a face.

Your mask only shows up if you've alerted people during your missions.

That'd explain it then... when I had that dodgy "not detected but detected" incident in the boyle estate because the AI immediately knew it was I who did something with the woman just because she took ages to go for a ♥♥♥♥.
