Dishonored

Please help? (SOLVED)
Whenever I start the game, I get an error that says "Failed to find default engine .ini file to retrieve My Documents subdirectory to use. Force quitting." I've already validated the cache and everything's fine. Help?

Running out of ideas but, did you install the game on an external drive? Also, on this latest install, are you getting the same message as the original?

okay can you get a hold of the logs? hopefully well get some more info from them.
people getting this error in dishonored were only from either pirated games, or because they were missing some configuration files (DefaultEngine.ini and BaseEngine.ini in the games folder). it coooould be an anti piracy measure as well but i dont know
hopefully those logs say something useful

That's odd. I don't have the Dishonored folder under My Documents and I already validated the game cache.

Okay...just so I have this right, your latest install was to the D: drive. Was any previous install made to your C: drive? I ask this because, there are some games that don't play well on anything other than the C: drive. I'm not certain but, if Dishonored is one those games, that could explain why you're getting an error message about path to the file it can't find.

All of my installs were to D. I could attempt to re-install to C, but I would have to free up at least 6GB of space :( Also, I think maybe it would be able to find My Docs because they're at C? I dont know..

you did have a dishonored folder under my documents before right?
just search for dishonored in C:\Users in case its somewhere else. if its not there then i guess i could upload a folder with it once i get home. maybe the game is unable to create that folder and thats why its failing to start

I had that dishonored folder in my docs all the time, but now I don't. Maybe because it belonged to the pirated version?

Yes, the game would know to look at C: for your My Documents folder but, the error says that it can't find "DefaultEngine.ini", which for typical installations would be on the C: drive under the
C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\.......\config folder, not in My Documents. I'm just thinking that, when installing it on the D: drive, the game may have trouble finding it thereby forcing the game to quit. (As an example, when installing Thief 4 to the D: drive, there have been audio problems reported that are fixed when reinstalling to the C: drive)

It might be worth the effort to free up the space on your C: drive and try installing the game there. If you haven't done it for a while, defragment the C: drive first. That will help frree up some space, then start removing old programs and deleting unnecessary files, or transfer some stuff from C: to D:. All in all, I'd make sure to have about 14GB available for the game install.

Yeah I just freed up about 25GB so pretty happy about that :)
I will try re-installing it to C again, however, my main steam folder is on D, so I would install the game under SteamLibrary. Just making sure that it doesnt need the steamapps folder.
